Opening RAW files from a Sony HX99 in Elements

New Here ,
Nov 09, 2018 Nov 09, 2018

I have just purchased a Sony DSC HX99.  I am unable to open the RAW files from Elements 10. This is an old version of Elements and Adibe suggest down loading a DNG converter to open them with. I have done that but the converter will not recognise any of the Sony RAW files on my computer even those from my Alpha 57 that I can open with Elements 10.  The coveter just says "No items match your search" when ever I open a folder containing a RAW file.

Questions?

1/ Why does the DNG converter not work?

2/ If I purchase Elements 2018 or 2019 will that open the RAW files from the HX99 ? (I don't want to spend money on a new version only to have the same problem)

3/ Are there any other solutions?

When selecting the images to convert with dog converter just select the folder, don't try to select the files inside.

The Sony HX99 is not yet supported by Adobe Camera Raw or the DNG converter.

Cameras supported by Camera Raw

Expect support between now and the end of the year. It may even be in the next DNG converter update - whenever that may be. But I'm just speculating.

In the meantime use the Sony software which came with your camera to convert them to TIFFs. Then edit the TIFFs in Elements.

John and Jeff thanks for taking the trouble to reply.

I awaite the next update of DNG. My Sony camera did not come with any software that I can use to create a TIFF.

Camera makers always provide software for you to edit Raw files from your camera. There's probably a leaflet in the box or an explanation in the camera manual telling you how to download it.

Download Sony's Imaging Edge software from Imaging Edge (Remote/Viewer/Edit) | Sony

You can use it to open Raw files and create TIFFs.
