Hi, Iam am in the process of recovering from harddrive failures and have to go to several original laptiop and other drives to recover original files. Having recovered to an externally attached drive i now want to import originals to a single location on an internal laptop drive. Which organiser option do i use that copies original as well as preview in pse15? note Get media import check box to include original ghosted and cant be selected. tks

When your external drive is plugged in, it is seen just like an internal drive by Elements.
You start with a new empty catalog.
You 'import' from 'files and folders' An external drive is not considered a removable media which explains why the downloader does not offer the option to copy the original (useful for importing from CD/DVD...) The process scans the external drives and records the information in the media files as well as the path on the external drive.
Once your 'import' process is finished, wait for the thumbnails to be created in the catalog. See the spinning wheel in the bottom left bar.
Set the left folder panel in 'tree' mode. You'll see the drives and folders hierarchy.
Now you have to drag and drop the folders on the external drive to a master folder in the main internal drive. Dragging and dropping a folder moves it with all its subfolders while updating the links in the catalog to the new drive as well as the thumbnails. Be patient, the move requires some time, just like when you are moving from the explorer. No progress bar, let the process finish. You can move the whole main folder or folder by folder if you feel safer.
If you are worried about the 'move' process (which is safe from my experience), you can use the 'backup and restore' process described here:
