Photoshop elements 10 will open but immediately closes

For two years now I have not been able to open photoshop elements 10 and have it stay open. Sometimes it opens and then other times it will not open. When it does open it starts to load and it has the hourglass and then within a second it closes. I have tired several different ways to open it but it does the same thing. My main concern is how do I get my pictures if it will not stay open? I have bought the elements and photoshop 14 and it works fine. Any suggestions on how to keep the 10 to stay open or how to get the pictures from 10. Did not save any hard copies in 10.
