Photoshop Elements 12 - Not enough RAM

I'm trying to convert TIFF files with 300dpi to JPEG files with 300dpi. I'm creating an image that is 36" x 48" with a 2" border all the way around so the final canvas size is 40" x 52". When I try to convert it to the JPEG, I get an error message that states: Could not save a copy as "Dance.jpeg" because there is not enough memory (RAM). Try saving without optimization or as baseline JPEG.

Any idea how to save the files to be sure they are high enough quality to reproduce a canvas print or photo print that is 36" x 48"?

    You don't state how you are proceeding to implement this task - step-by-step.

    Note that 36x48 has aspect ratio 3x4. 40x52 has aspect ratio 10x13 !!

    Have you  tried creating a Blank, new file, 40x52, (File>New>blank file 40x52", resolution=300px/in) then copy/paste the 46x48" image on to this canvas? That should give you a 2" border.

    300 px/in (not dpi) should be more than enough for this picture file, esp. in view of the large size.

    dpi=dots/in, which is determined by your printer. ppi=pixels per inch, which refers to the resolution.
