Question

Photoshop Elements 15 Organizer Places Tag

I recently upgraded to PSE 15 from 13, and I am no longer able to tag locations with as much detail. Before I was able to assign a location in this order:  Country > State > City > Exact location within city. Now I can only go Country > State > City and every location assigned within the city is forced to have the same name. The locations that I imported in from PSE 13 are correct as assigned in PSE 13, but any new locations assigned within the same general area will all be assigned to the same city. I can rename locations, but if they are within a certain proximity (same city) all locations will assume the same name in the "Places" view or Media view. This appears to be a bug. I would appreciate any help on this. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

The clustering of proximate pins in Places view depends upon the zoom level of your map. While you are at least zoom level (default) in Pinned Places view, the pins in same city but different places would more likely be shown as one. Zoom in to this area by clicking on + button at lower right corner. When you are enough zoomed in to have considerable distance between the two locations, the pins would start showing up differently.

In Media view, the Tags panel to the right would show the two locations as different under the same city using which you can search and use them separately. The search feature supports only three levels of location tags, i.e. Country, State, City, which is why there you would find such photos grouped under single category.

Hope this helps. Please get back to me in case of any other queries.

Thanks,

Hi Arshla,

Here is a statement you made in your response that I would like to comment on:

“In Media view, the Tags panel to the right would show the two locations as different under the same city using which you can search and use them separately. The search feature supports only three levels of location tags, i.e. Country, State, City, which is why there you would find such photos grouped under single category.”

This is not correct, at least, with my installation of PSE 15.  In Media View the Tags panel does not show two or more locations as different under the same city.  There is nothing shown under the city, because the view does not expand to more than city level. If I filter on the city level I see all the images tagged to that city, or if I go to Places view I see them listed on the map, but the bottom line is, as you stated above, there are only three levels of location tags in Media View. In version 13 there were four levels expanded all the way down to street level. At street level I would customize with names so I could search on a specific item. In fact, all four levels from version 13 migrated into version 15 just fine and are operational, but I can’t create any new locations tags to the fourth (street) level in version 15. To me this seems like a downgrade, not an upgrade. If this is normal for version 15 I may go back to 13, but I’m hoping this is an unintended change and that this feature will be brought back to the way it worked before.

Thanks,

I agree with Lowell. My only experience is PSE 15 and as is the Places tag is useless.  I use the events tag to better categorize my photos. I get to pick from a list without having to wade through hundreds of photos lumped together because them being categorized in the same city/state.
