Problems saving photographs

New Here ,
Oct 25, 2017 Oct 25, 2017

I import images from several cameras and edit them in Elements 9.  Occasionally, and increasingly, I find that an image is saved in a file format that has no name and which I cannot open again in Elements although it will usually open in Camera Raw.  The file icon appears as a blank envelope with the top right corner turned down.  Unfortunately, although I can reopen in Camera Raw, when I change back to save it, whether as a JPEG or a TIFF file, it reverts to the unreadable format.  Can anyone please help me to understand what is happening and how to solve the problem.

Have you tried to add .jpeg, .jpg, .png, .tif, or .psd after the file name and then try to open it?
