PSE 2019, Kataloge

Hallo liebe Freunde,

nachdem ich mehrere Einschränkungen bei PSE 2019 gegenüber PSE14 hinnehmen muss, beschäftige ich mich mit der Organisation meiner Kataloge, weil ich durch Wegfall des pdf-Imports Änderungen machen muss.

Frage 1: ich finde nirgends eine Angabe, wie groß Kataloge sein können, bevor sie zu groß (=zu langsam werden).Klar hängt das auch von den Fotogrößen ab. Ich habe immer versucht, bei 20.000 Fotos den Katalog zu begrenzen. Oder ist das unnötig? (Optimierung eingeschlossen.) Einige Kataloge haben ca 1 GB.

Frage 2: Beim Ansehen der Verknüpfungen, die als "Catalogs" auf c:\users\all users\adobe\element organizer\catalogs liegen, sehe ich, dass seit der Konvertierung von PSE14 auf PSE17 sämtliche Kataloge doppelt in diesem Pfad liegen. Zum Beispiel "Diashows" (aktuelles Datum) und "Diashows1"(Datum der Umwandlung). Bei der normalen Bearbeitung (Zugang über die APP) sehe ich völlig korrekt den (Beispiel-)Katalog "Diashow".

Frage: sind die doppelten (alten) Kataloge die PSE14-Stände? Ich bin irritiert, weil bei früheren Versionswechseln neue Pfade für die neuen Kataloge erstellt wurden, was ich auch für günstiger halte. (Ich sichere mir diese Ordner auch in Abständen.).

Question 1 = A catalog with 20 000 items is a small catalog. I consider 50 000 to 100 000 catalogs to be "normal" with fast operation except for initial indexing if you use face recognition or smart automatic features; some users reported more than 300 000 items.

Question 2 = When you upgrade to a new Elements version, the format of the catalog and its database changes. So, you need to 'convert' the catalog. That means creating a new catalog in the new format, which reads the data in the older catalog and stores the data and indexes in the new catalog. The new catalog takes the name of the old catalog while the old catalog is renamed with a -1 suffix. The old Element version recognizes  the renamed format automatically.

To know which Elements version has been used for a catalog, look at the 'catalog.pseXXdb' file in the catalog folder. XX is 14 for PSE14 and 17 for PSE2019. You may archive old catalogs to free space on your working computer.
