PSE 23 Layers panel

New Here ,
Oct 26, 2022 Oct 26, 2022

I use PSE for scrapbooking so I have lots of layers.   They all appear to be blank in the layers panel.   Been Using PSE since Version 5 and have never seen this.   It looks like I just hit the add layer button several time.   Very hard to work with.

Let me move this to the Photoshop Elements forum for you, which I think is the appropriate forum for your question.

* The Using the Community forum is for help in using the Adobe Support Community forums, not for help with specific programs, installation issues, or account issues such as subscription questions or billing problems, or generalized questions about Creative Cloud services.
* Questions about business plans should be posted in Enterprise and Teams
* Product questions should be posted in the associated product community.
* Installation questions should be posted in the Download & Install community.
* Account issues, including subscription questions or billing problems, should be posted in the Account, Payment, & Plan community.
* Questions about the Creative Cloud desktop app or general questions about apps in the Creative Cloud should be posted to the Creative Cloud Services community.

I have never seen this either.  Does this only happen with one particular file?  If so, do you get the same result if you save, close and reopen it?

All I can suggest is to go into the Layers Panel>Panel Options and play around with changing some of the settings like the Thumbnail Size and see if it makes a difference.

Sometimes the object in the layer is too small to be seen in the thumbnail. So, as Greg_S suggested, open the Layer Panel Options and try setting the Thumbnail Contents to Layer Bounds. It will zoom to fit the object in the layer.

Too small is definitely not the problem.   If you look at my sample, sometimes the layer is completely filled with a patterned paper.   Also, the masks don't show.   I can fill a mask with black and it stays white in the layers panel.   If I reopen elements everything is filled in, but any new layers I add, may or may not be.   It's not consistant at all.   I've gone back to PSE 2020.  This is too time consuming to work with.   So disappointing.

@Mary-Lynne24, have the layers ever appeared properly in Elements 2023?  And, if so, did you try resetting the preferences as I suggested in my earlier post?

If I understand you correctly, if you close and reopen a file, the layers appear correctly.  Is that so? How much RAM do you have on your machine?  This sounds like maybe a memory leak or graphics card issue.  So, you can try changing the Graphics Card acceleration in the Edit>Preferences>Performance dialog.

And you should also update your graphics card driver from the card's manufacturer.

If all of that fails, try contacting Elements support. You can start a chat session by clicking on the blue Contact Us button under the Help and Support menu at Adobe.com. Or you can contact Support by telephone using the numbers listed here: https://helpx.adobe.com/contact/phone.html.

Yes, all is fine if I re-open, but new layers after that are blank.   I changed the graphics card down to 50%, opened 2 files (pngs)  both blank.   So frustrated.  Been using PSE forever, 20+ years, always update to the newest odd release (skip the evens).   Never seen anything like this.   For scrapbooking, it's completely unusable.   I end up with 30 layers or more, with many of them masked and can't see a thing!   I submitted an email to support.  They responded with  a question about my serial number.  I responded; haven't heard another word. Screenshots attached (preferences one was before I reduced the graphics card speed).  thanks for your help.

@Mary-Lynne24, I am concerned that you have contacted a fraudster posing as Adobe Support.  I am not familiar with any method of contacting Adobe Support via email.  If you were contacted via a Private Message on this forum and given an email address that does not contain @Adobe.com, then you were certainly contacted by a scammer and you have now given the scammer your serial number.  It, therefore, does not surprise me that you have not received a reply.

Please let us know the identity of any person who contacted you via PM so they can be banned from the forum.  If you are willing to contact the official support for Adobe, follow the instructions in my earlier post to you.  (Hours of operation are limited outside the US.)

Oh Crap!   Didn't mean to do that!   The email address I was given is **scam email address**.   If you scan the forum, there are more that one member telling people to use this.

@Mary-Lynne24 , the email address is a known scammer.  That is why the forum software edited your post automatically.  But if you were contacted via Private Message please identify the person who contacted you.

Sorry, I thought it was a forum post and was gone, but you're right, it was a PM.   It was from Katherine Weikel...  (with three dots at the end like there's more)
