Question

"?" in the large view in Organizer

I just started using PSE15, I don't have an earlier version on this computer. I loaded about 1,000 photos into Organizer from one folder on the computer's hard drive. When I double click on a thumbnail image the large photo comes up as a gray box with a question mark in it. Oddly, Organizer can "see" that there are people in the image even though it's not showing the image. I can open the file with Instant Fix, but I shouldn't have to do this to see a large version of the file. Thanks in advance for your help.

Well it's definitely an issue with the iMac 5K retina display.

I have just installed Elements 15 on my MacBook Air and there are no issues at all with "? grey screen"

It really is about time Adobe recognised, admitted and fixed this issue.

I've ditched PSE15 (and Lightroom) and moved over to Affinity Photo. At least Seriff designed their product to work properly with MAC OS and their customer support is good

I have exactly the same problem as you since moving to PSE 15 on 5k retina iMac.

Catalog imports all photos, creates thumbnails but when I click on an individual thumbnail I also get grey screen with ?

Right clicking allows editing correctly so not corrupt catalog or missing files. Have uninstalled, re installed and created new catalogs - still happens.

This must be an issue with PSE15 +/- Sierra

No answers/fix as yet

Hi Karen,

Please try updating the thumbnail for the image/s you see "question mark" upon.

For this select the image, right click on it and select "Update Thumbnail" from the context menu.

In case it works fine for you, then you can select all such images and choose Update Thumbnail by right clicking on this selection.

Please try this and record your findings with us. If not resolved, then we will try out other solutions.

Thanks,

Arshla

Hi,  I'm wondering A) were too many images uploaded at once and the site was 'overwhelmed'?   B) if the images are corrupted at their origin (prior to being uploaded in PSE)?  (Usually Pictures library, location)     C) if the images were to be deleted from catalog and re-uploaded several at a time.  One or two could be tried initially to check if this suggestion might work.  Trish

I don't understand exactly what you are seeing.

- After you import files, do their thumbnail appear for each one?

- If you see the thumbnail, double clicking is the same as moving the zoom slider to the right.

- If the thumbnail does not show, would 'Update thumbnail' from the right click contextual menu help?

- Maybe screenshots could help understand better what you are seeing?

Hi Michel.

1. Yes, the thumbnail appears

2.  I didn't know you could use the slider to get the large view. But that's kind of a pain to have to do on each image — shouldn't the double click bring up the image in the 1x view?

3. There is a thumbnail.

4. I'll send a screenshot tomorrow. It will show a large, gray image with a question mark in the middle. I will also try to get a screen shot showing how it can still detect people even though the image doesn't appear.

Thanks for your help, now at least we have another way to see the large image.
