Refresh IPTC data in Elements Organizer 2018

Hi,

is there a way to tell Elements Organizer to refresh tags generated based on photos IPTC data?

I realized I am missing the albums I used in Picasa and to try and tranfer them to Elements I gave all pictures in the same album a tag with the album name, which is now included into the IPTC data.

However, the pictures (~60,000) were already imported into Elements Organizer (including face recognition which took ~3 days), so I do not want to remove and re-import them, rather to just re-scan the IPTC data.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks

Unfortunately, I don't know any way to do this with Elements other than reimporting in a new catalog.

The only data you can recover from Elements is the caption: use the 'Update thumbnail" command (Ctrl - Shift - U).

Thank you, that is what I was fearing.

Just to confirm importing a new catalog would mean remove all data from the catalog, and reimport everything?

If I write the name/face tags that Elements generated into the files (again as IPTC tag - there is an option in Elements to do that automatically) will that help in any way or will it have to do the whole face-recognition bit again?

You can keep your present catalog, create a new one and import, but you can't merge them into a single catalog with all the metadata and tagging fields.

I don't use face recognition, but I am afraid that won't help.

You have added a keyword to recover each of your previous albums. I wonder if adding a caption instead would be possible? or at least adding a text substring in the existing captions? If so, you might try to:

1 - Select all your files and choose 'update thumbnail', which should update your captions with the substring

2 - use the text search in Elements to find the files matching the substring for each previous album, and create a new Elements album?
