I am teaching a digital art class using photoshop elements 14 and suddenly one of my students can not save his work. When we try to click save as the regular save as pop up box is not showing. It is also not saving his work. We are using macs. Any help?

Could be the Save As dialog is off screen.
See if resetting the pse 14 editor preferences fixes it.
Go to Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor>Preferences>General, click on Reset Preferences on next launch and restart the pse 14 editor.

Or maybe your seeing compact Save As dialog?
In that case click on the down-turned arrow to the right of the Save As name field to get the full size save as dialog back.

Thank you for responding. Neither of these are working. There is no down
arrow. Any other ideas?
Thanks!

What version of macOS is your student using?
Is it possible you could post a screenshot of what your seeing?

The software is Mac OS X 10.9.5.
I cant really screenshot the problem because when I hit save as it just
briefly flashes a small image. I cant really see it to tell what it is. It
is not showing me the save as dialogue box.
Thank you!

So when you use File>Save As you see some kind of dialog until you hit save?
If you just use File>Save there not going to be any save dialog most likely unless your trying to save a jpeg or format that doesn't support layers and you added a layer(s).
A screenshot of the dialog your seeing before you hit save would be good.

When I hit save as it just briefly FLASHES a small image. It is so quick I
can't even tell what it is. The only screenshot I could give you is a
screenshot of the student's work in progress.

Okay so no dialog that you can see.
Next thing i would try is going to
/Users/User Name/Library/Preferences
and trash the following
Adobe Photoshop Elements 14 Settings folder
Adobe Photoshop Elements 14 Paths
com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist

I encountered this problem and was able to bring the Don't Save/Cancel/Save dialog back by right clicking on the app in the bottom row which brings up a window with the option/show all windows/hide/quit. Select "hide" and then the app will very briefly hide and then come back but the window you are looking for will appear and you can save your files. Hope this helps someone in the future. I know this thread is old but I was having this problem recently so it is still a thing apparently.
