I have had PSE 8 on Windows 10 for over a year.
I have just loaded some new pictures on taken in the last few days and Organizer would only show thumbnails for the newly added pictures, all other pictures showed as a question mark on a plain background, about 7,000 of them.
I tried to link the missing files and it pulled through thumbnails for about 600 but thre rest stil show the question mark.
I have tried recreating the thumbnail catalog by marking the original as Old in Program Data but it has made no difference.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what else I can do/try?

Hi jova,
Thanks for posting in Adobe forums.
I understand you are facing issue with the thumbnails of Adobe Organizer.
- If you are using a Mac then go to:
~/library/application Support/adobe/Elements organizer/catalogs
rename the folder Breezedata & the file thumb5.cache to Breezedata.old & thumb5.cache.old
- If you are using a Windows operating system then go to:
C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs\My Catalog
- rename thumb.5.cache to thumb.5.cache
- Open Organizer & check.
Hope this works
Thanks

Hi Dhananjay,
Thanks for your reply. I have already tried renaming the thumb.5.cache, as I said in my original posting, but it has made no difference.

Before dealing with the thumbnails, you must be sure ALL your pictures are correctly connected from the catalog. You can't expect the organizer to create thumbnails from files it does no longer find at the location they were before the problem.
Since the search was able to find 600 items and reconnect them, that means that:
- all your files were disconnected
- the reconnection feature was only able to find a part of them. That's to be expected, reconnection may require several guided attempts to the new location.
So, the first troubleshooting step is to look at the information panel to see the location the catalog still keeps a missing image and compare to the real present location.
For the organizer to find the real photo file, two conditions:
- the file path must be exactly the same
- the drive letter AND the intenal serial number of the drive must be the same. If your pictures are on another drive than the original, the organizer won't find the files even if you have a correct drive letter and the same exact path.
From your original post, it looks like you did not change anything in the location of your files. On the other hand, the reconnect feature found 600 disconnected files, which means your problem is not mainly with the creation of thumbnails but with the disconnection.
So, how do the initial files location compare with the present one on the computer? The above comparison may also help you to reconnect all (or more) of your missing files:
