I am resizing and rotating using the squares at the corners of the bounding box.  I'm not seeing the add image box.

Kathy, I have the ancient PSE2 so it's possible there is something in PSE13 that is causing your problem that is not in PSE2. Hopefully another reader of this forum can help.

I do have one question though. In the lower right corner of the thumbnail for the problem layer is an icon. What is this? Most of your png layers, including the original that this was copied from, do not have this icon.

    A few questions...

Is the original png file at the bottom of the Layers Palette?

What is in the layer you are adding?

Are you doing Image > Resize > Image Size, or Image > Resize > Canvas Size?

How are you doing the rotate?

Please post a screenshot showing your picture and the open Layers Palette.

To post the screenshot click the Insert Image icon just above the message box.

That icon represents a Smart Object, something pse 2 doesn't have.

It's possible that's the problem, but it's hard to tell without seeing the actual contents of the smart object.

    Hi kathyj,

Thanks for posting in Adobe forum.

I understand you are looking for saving a png file with transparent background.

    - Make sure when you are saving your png file its background should be transparent not white.

    - You need to select "Interlaced" in png option before saving it.

    -

    Hope this helps

    Thanks

    Regards

Not actually what I am doing.  I am brining a png file into PSE 13.  After adding it to a layer, resizing, and rotating the image, I end up with a white square when it was previously transparent.

Use on of the selection tools, e.g., selection brush or lasso tool, to select the object on your PNG file. Once the selection is complete, go to Edit>copy

Then go back to the file to which you wish to superimpose the selection (which will be on its own layer)

Use the move tool to position and resize, if necessary.
