Type Printing in Open Face

I'm not sure this is a PSE problem, but I'm posting it here anyway.

The type that is in the project is printing out in open face rather than solid black although the image (all black) is printing fine.

I have had a problem with my Epson XP-630 in that the Photo Black is not showing up when I do a nozzle check even after cleaning. All the other cartridges print out fine in the nozzle check.

In order to get around having to print in RGB, I changed the mode to grayscale in order to not use the Photo Black. I guess I didn't do something right.

Can Anyone help me with this problem?
