Update not working & Missing Files

Just bought E15; it wants to update but it trips out each time?

Also pictures in organiser no longerr sharp & searches for 'missing file each time, eventually followed by a box that I cannot navigate. Help?

Looks like four different issues...

Questions to help other users help you:

- Mac or Win, which OS version?

- did you own a previous Elements version before?

- if so, which version and did you use catalogs in the organizer?

- did you 'convert' an old catalog or simply import your image files?

- could you post screenshots of the error messages in this forum? (not from mail). See the 7th icon on the top line to include the screeshot.

This is the version for windows 10 only purchased last week

Yes I had Elements 6, for some years very successfully

Elements 6 and I used a series of Albuns

I got the pictures out of the old Elements 6 from my old computer onto a little Blue box as a back up and loaded them onto my new computer and new Elements 15 programme. I must say this issue had started on the old computer running Elements 6

Last point; I'll have a go if I understood it right. Cannot copy screen off E15

. Opening a picture, all except some very new ones, a little box appears; entilted 'Elements Organiser' below this we have 'searching for missing file followed by a long reference number that changes as it appears to be searching. A box box for 'Browse or cancel also appears. If you leave it long enough a new box appears entitled 'Reconnect missing files' this has a couple of boxes and choices difficult to describe though none of them actually do anything I can find.

Well let me tell you that when we import pictures in the Organizer, it does not actually get imported rather there is a link created between the Organizer and the default pictures location from where the pictures was imported. So in case you delete the photo after importing it into the Organizer then that link would break and that image would show question mark on it and would hence go missing.

You will need to reconnect those missing files. You may open the Elements Organizer 15 on the new computer and then go to the file menu>>Reconnect>>All missing files, Elements would now start looking for those missing files on your computer and try to reconnect them for you. If you think you already know the new location of these pictures then please click on Browse on that search window and navigate to the new location on the right column and hit Reconnect. All the other photos present on the same location would also reconnect automatically. And for the remaining missing photos you might have to repeat this procedure few more times.

You may also run a manual search for photos by their names on the computer(not on the Elements Organizer). This way you can check its location and use it to browse the same photo in Element Organizer`s reconnect dialog box.

For the Update issue I would like to know if there are any error messages that you get while doing so.

Thank you for coming back to me and for the advice. I had begun along the lines you suggest eventually, from the ‘Dummies’ book. Since leaving the message, somehow I have lost my pictures from my new computer altogether. The only ones I have are those taken since I had this computer, so were never downloaded. These operate fine. My pictures are all on an old laptop using Vita and the photoshop programme Elements 6. Again that is now working fine.

I had copied from the laptop onto a little box from my son and from that into my new computer. Probably hence the issue. So now how do I copy these onto the new computer. One idea I have is to copy onto discs, as I do not want to lose years of photographic trips to historic railways.

Regarding the ‘update’ Each time I go into Elements 15 a box comes up saying I have an update Photoshop Camera Raw 9.10. The choice is to instal now or on exit, or press a button to ‘learn more’. That offers an error log, which comes up ‘your file was not found’ It offers to update progress and then says ‘update failed’

The other option is ‘customer support’ that takes me onto a website the options on which I simply do not understand and do not appear to me relevant.
