Using my External 1TB Hard Drive to store space for my Scratch Disk?

     Everytime i try to open up Photoshop CC on my HP laptop it keeps saying my scratch disks don't have enough space!!! This could be true because my laptop only holds 21GB of space, which is why i have an external drive.  Ultimately my question is would i be able to use my external drive to store the space needed for the scratch disks and if so how would I?
