What do I do when my photo saves automatically to Word which I can't open? (Elements 18...expert category)

I am working in Elements 18 which is new to me. This happened in 12 too. I edited a photo in the expert section and it save as a Word document which I cannot open or even print out a photo so that I can take a picture of it. I think I have Microsoft 13 or at least 10 which I purchased in 2013. Appreciate any help. Thanks.

I was able to save pictures this way with other edited pictures.  Good to know. The one that I want ( after much editing work) is already in an EPS format and It won't let me change it. Do you know if I can backtrack somehow and do that?

You have added a new variable!

Download Irfanview (free)

IrfanView - Official Homepage - One of the Most Popular Viewers Worldwide

This program will open EPS file format. Then save it as JPEG in your destination folder..

Open a new folder on your desktop

After you have finished editing in PSE, go to File>Save as. In the dialog that comes up, point to the folder on the desktop, enter a file name, and file type (e.g. JPEG).

You should be able to print this.

Thank you. I downloaded IrfanView but can't see how to get a picture into it. I am not an advanced computer user. I'm rather basic. I open the IrfanView program and it says "no file loaded". I try to type in a file name but none of the "files" I list take. I type in the name of a picture which I assume is the file name. I've even tried folders. IrfanView doesn't have a help number or e-mail option. All of this may be beyond me. I don't know how Photoshop saved an image as Word to begin with. If I try to reload the picture into Photoshop, it says that it is already there even though I have changed the name. Very frustrating. Maybe I need to get some private Photoshop lessons at home. I try to plug away and try to solve problems and often I eventually get results and learn something new. I can see that IrfanView could actually be helpful but it seems that it is for advanced computer users.

If you open Irfanview, click on File, then Open and you will get a screen up. At the top there is a box call 'Look for'. Negotiate your way using that and the folders that display on the screen until you find the exact file you are looking for. Click on that and you should be on your way.

It is also much better when in PE to do a 'Save as...' rather than a 'Save'. That way you get to choose where to save your photos and what file type to save them as. You can pick jpg from the drop down list.
