working with multiple files and moving selections between them.

I've used Elements 9 for 15 years and can't duplicate those basic functions in 2024.

Typically, I'd open several files at once then select items from one and copy them to another. Here's what I'm confused about:

- in 9, I saw all my open files in the bin below... is there such an option in 2024?

-when I select something and want to create a new file with it, the "New File from clipboard" doesn't do that. How do I do it?

-When I select something and "copy" it, then move to another image to apply it, "paste" doesn't do anything.

I've attempted to find answers in tutorials but have been discouraged by literally hours of dialog with nothing easily found about those issues.

ANY help will be appreciated.  (Yeah, I've got a printed manual on order.)

Yes the Photo Bin is still available.  Click the button in the lower left of the screen shown in my screenshot:

Ashampoo Snap 16_Tuesday, April 9, 2024_11h13m34s_1.pngWhen you select a tool, the Photo Bin toggles to the Tool Options panel.

When you create a selection, you first have to copy it from the Edit menu or use Ctrl+C shortcut.  You will then be able to use the New>From Clipboard command to place the selection into a new file. (Also demonstrated in my screenshot.)

The Copy-Paste to a different file should also work.  I'm at a loss to explain why it isn't working for you.  Try creating a new layer in the target photo and paste into that.

ok... that's a big help. Many thanks.

It seems that many things I'm used to are now buried beneath the plethora of options. Oh well, I'll eventually  learn it.

If the copy-paste is still not working for you, try resetting the preferences file. Go to Edit>Preferences>General tab and click the Reset Preferences on next launch button.

Didn't have to go this far, but thanks for the alternative... I'll file it as I'm not over the hump yet.

Again, thanks.

Update: just for the record, I had a re-occurence and called Adobe support. They said that this is a recognized problem and they have a team working on it. They ARE trying to solve my individual issue.  I'll post the outcome.

(heavy sigh!)
