Hi,

The black band above the selections suggest that there is a problem with the programs display. The height has been squashed. It maybe that the program can't cope with the width/height combination.

Could you try to shrink the editor window to half the screen width, close the editor and re-open it to see if it makes any difference.

We may have to raise this as a bug.

Hi,

Which system are you running on (MAC/PC)?

It seems to work correctly on my Windows 10 system. If you are a MAC user, then I'm afraid I can't help.

Hi,

I'm afraid it's going to be mainly questions to start with.

Do you load the image via organizer or directly from the editor file menu?

When you first load the image and switch to Guided mode, is the screen similar to this?

2017-11-26.png

Are you saying that once that screen appears, you can only select Basics from the top menu?

On PSE 14, when do you see a scroll bar on the right?

What screen resolution is your screen set to?

Hi,

Have you tried maximizing the window? (double left click on the title bar to the right of Help)

A screenshot of your screen might help me see something. My screens look the same in PSE 14 & 2018.

Hi,

Try switching the scaling factor.

Go to Edit -> Preferences -> Display & Cursors

At the bottom, there is a scaling factor with the note that some items might be cut off when using 200%

Hi David,

I doubt that you have a corrupt download.

I feel that your resolution of 2560x1080 is a little unusual and maybe affecting the way things are displayed.

To first make sure that nothing is hiding off the edge of the screen, please click on the icon to the left of the File menu (blue arrow)

2017-11-26 (2).jpg

Next select Maximise if you can.

If that doesn't help then I feel that the problem maybe down to resolution & scaling - perhaps Adobe introduced a bug at 2018.

Try adjusting the scaling factor in the editor (Edit -> Preferences -> Display & Cursors).

You could also try changing the Windows 10 settings (Start -> Settings -> System -> Display). Look at Scale and layout section for the size of text etc.

To take a screenshot in Windows 10, the easiest way is to hold down the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. That will take a copy of the active window and save it in the screenshots folder - on my system it is here

D:\OneDrive\Pictures\Screenshots

To add it to your reply, go to the reply header and click on the Insert Image icon.

2017-11-26 (3).jpg

Then you browse to your screenshots folder, select the required image (named by date), click on Open and then Insert Image.

Good luck

Ok, Photoshop elements 18 is not responding again only in guided mode. It worked for a week or so and now not responding only in guided edit.  I would probably be satisfied with a full refund as this program is aggravating as hell and I think may not be worth the time invested to resolve the issue only for it to reappear again.  So here I am proposing this problem to someone that might have an answer--what the heck is wrong with the guided mode in photoshop 18 . Here is a screen shot in paint-notice how it is cut off--and I can't hover my arrow over the picPhotoshop 18 Guided mode.jpg

Brian, thanks again for your prompt reply--I usually don't even check my

email during the week because I am so exhausted from work--You gave me an

idea when you mentioned that the program had been "squashed" which is

obviously true but how and why it is ramdom was the biggest puzzle to me.

First, Photoshop 13 and 14 have never had this issue with guided mode, the

cursor always aligned just fine but Photoshop 18 aligned just fine in

guided mode the first couple of weeks after install--then it would not

align with the cursor after that, Yea! we have found a solution--My

computer is a 16inch laptop which uses a hdmi cable connected to a 24inch

monitor. I discovered that when I open the unit the program will shrink and

then the cursor will align with the guided mode- when I leave it closed

which is what I always do- the program is squashed and the cursor will not

align--the question now, is why it worked ok closed sometime and not other

times, I don't care about why it was random since I now know the

solution-and I have never had a problem with 13 and 14 with the unit closed

as I described before--So, you may have the credit for suggesting the

program was "squashed" which led to the experiment of a closed or open

laptop being the real culprit. David
