import from iphoto

I have the trial version to see if photoshop elements will work for me. I have more than one iphoto library. I tried importing from iphoto, but the command went striaght from <import from iphoto> to the process of importing 22000 photos. How do I know that the program has chosen the correct library to import? How does it pick the iphoto library? Also, what parts of my organization in iphoto can I expect it to import? will my photo captions, tags, keywords, events, albums and slideshows all be imported? I don't want to have to finish the entire library import just to see what it does.

Thank you for your assistance, I am looking for a good replacement software for iphoto to preserve all my organization.

It depends on your OS. Apple stopped support some time ago for iPhoto in El Capitan and the latest OS, Sierra following the launch of the Photos app. Keywords, captions and GPS locations should transfer but other info may be lost.

In a similar way Apple dropped support for Aperture, although transfer to Lightroom my offer better solutions, e.g. events transfer to collections.

It may be worthwhile creating a smaller iPhoto library as a test import to see what gives best results.

The Photos app can be used with the PSE Editor but only works with extensions – see my blog.

yes - new Photos app is horrible, I don't use it. I am still in iPhoto and looking for suitable alternative. Almost lost the hard drive last week, so it's obvious I need to move on. I am struggling through trial version trying to understand the setup, folders, events, albums.... can't tell what transferred or not... Your response brings up another good question. When I imported my ENTIRE library as a trial (and it took an hour!) It didn't ask me for destination of library to import. If I create another test library for iphoto - how do I tell elements which library to import? It just automatically picked one... (I already have multipl libraries, haven't figured out how to choose alternate one for import.. ? Thanks for your response.
