Question

Pixel Shift Support.

Long story short. Sort of.

Have been using Elements 15 for a couple of years now and recently tried to download Elements+. Something went wrong and after what seemed like a smooth download and install I no longer had access to the editor. Spent an hour trying everything I could think of including uninstalling +. Still could not open the editor. In an attempt to see the silver lining I decided it was time for an upgrade of Elements anyway. But I see that Elements does not support pixel shift files. So my question is does Adobe have any plans to change this anytime in the future? There are only a very few editing software programs that do support pixel shift and I see an opportunity for adobe to attract some new customers by offering that support.

I thoroughly enjoyed using Elements but am at a crossroad as to stay or choose one of the free software programs that support pixel shift files. Thanks.

Dave.

Actually adobe does support pixel shift images in that camera raw will open the image (frames), but only shows and allows the user access to only one of the frames. Adobe doesn't as yet support viewing the individual pixel shift frames or averaging the frames and so on like some other software does like Raw Therapee.

Why adobe with it's vast resources doesn't fully support pixel shift while an open source Raw Therapee with very smart volunteer developers, yet limited resources, can, is a question only adobe can answer.

You can download Raw Therapee from here

    https://rawtherapee.com/

and the sample Pentax pixel shift image i used from here:

    https://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/pentax-k3-ii/pentax-k3-iiGALLERY.HTM

Raw Therapee 5.5 pixel shift without Motion Correction

You can see the flags are showing motion

Raw Therapee 5.5 pixel shift with motion correction on

Now the flags are virtually motion free

Photoshop elements 2018 and camera raw 11.1

Image opens but no control of any pixel shift related frames

Thank you for your reply Jeff. And the links to rawtherepee. Darktable is another option. Going to do a bit more research. Pixel shift files are generally HUGE so not sure how often I’ll use it but I’d like to have the option. Thanks again.

Sometimes technical features leave users cold. I never use dual pixel raw on my Canon 5D mk IV because the nano-adjustments in Canon DPP are not worth the effort. No wonder there is no support in Adobe Creative Cloud apps, not to mention PSE.
