Question

Why is the UI Grey so bright in Photoshop Elements 2019?

Could the UI Grey in Photoshop Elements 2019 be made adjustable or darker, as it's too bright  to work with.

Surely when designing and testing somebody would have picked this up.  Also i've noticed this complaint on forums for past versions, it's not new feedback.  Is Adobe are too arrogant to address customers feedback or do they simply no care?

I'm not bothered by the coloured icons, this is aimed at non professionals but a bright light grey background and borders.  My eyes, it's burning my eyes!!!

There is no need to redesign the UI, but at least add the option of turning that mass of grey darker.

Another view from another user like you:

The answer is very simple.

You are working with a software whose main purpose is to edit photos very seriously, which includes the ability to view images and colors in a controlled and rigorous manner.

Unfortunately, that purpose can only been achieved with color management, with a dedicated hardware calibration tool and with working on an adequate display (size, colour accuracy, angle of vision) and in controlled ambient lighting.

And you know what? Nearly all displays are set to horribly excessive brightness. Just set your display to the recommended values.

Surely when designing and testing somebody would have picked this up.  Also i've noticed this complaint on forums for past versions, it's not new feedback.

Do you remember the number of complaints with the old dark interface until PSE10? Ten times more that those who now complain about the light background.

Is your display calibrated with an hardware tool like Spyder?

What kind of display?

If you have a correctly calibrated screen and still suffer from the brightness, then, really I am afraid you might ask guidance from an ophtalmologist.

A quick test to assess the brightness of the display. In the organizer, can you distinguish clearly the 3 different shades of grey beside white?

Michel,

you've totally missed the point and gone off at an irrelevant tangent here.  If we need to calibrate and get all technical then I think we can use the full photoshop as I do, for the casual user Elements is fine.   Read my post again, you haven't really addressed the issue at all.

The grey is too bright to work with, it's distracting. It is not only me who has noticed this, people with past version also notice this. It just needs a slider for bright or dark as in full Photoshop.  Not too dark, not too light but we can decide what is right.

Please don't highlight and copy my points it's like being told off by a school teacher.  Patronising and pointless, I've got 20 years using photoshop I don't need a lecture, I just making a reasonable point as have others.

As I said, it's the point of view of just another user.

I won't change my position. What I said will be useful for the target market of Elements, from the FAQ:

What is Photoshop Elements 2019 and who is it for?

Adobe Photoshop Elements 2019 is photo editing software used by anyone who wants to edit and create with their photos. It offers easy ways to get started, effortless organization, step-by-step guidance for editing, and fun ways to make and share stunning photo creations. Plus, it’s fast and easy with photo and video automation powered by Adobe Sensei AI technology. Learn more.

I understand that users of Photoshop want the same features they are used to, that's fine for me.

The fact is that what I said is still true:

Do you remember the number of complaints with the old dark interface until PSE10? Ten times more that those who now complain about the light background.

It's ok to wish more customization, but for that, Adobe wants you to switch to the Creative Cloud.
