Using alt + [ or alt + ] cycles through layers
I want it to not do that, every time I pick a color and changes brushed too quickly (because I like to work fast), bam, I'm on a different layer.
It has ****** up many a workflow so far, and I'm contemplating moving to a different program for illustrating, solely because of this one thing.
I'd prefer to find a way to change it, as I do like Photoshop more than anything else. But I've heard you can't.
If anyone does know of an advanced method, please let me know.
I don't care if I have to go screw with my registry to fix it, this feature single-handedly puts me off Photoshop.

Hi
There's no way to change/disable the shortcut, can't say that I have had any issues with it, it has never disrupted my workflow.
You can of course put a feature request here Photoshop | Photoshop Family Customer Community

How does this interfere with picking Colors anyway?

if you hold alt to pick color, and press square brackets while alt is down, it moves you to a new layer. Also without warning, so if you're the fast painter, you'll pick-n-go and only after hundreds of brush strokes will you realize you're not on the layer you were supposed to be on.

Alt+Click Samples the Color or the Area under the mouse cursor for some tools. Alt+, Alt+[ Alt+] and Alt+. Select Visible layers. They are not Shortcut keys you can edit in Edit Keyboard shortcuts You can not change some of the Keyboard Shortcuts that are Programmed into Photoshop.
If your painting in Photoshop why is your fingers even near the Bracket keys> What country keyboard do you have. If you are changing tip size get a wacom Pen change the tit with the tablet dile.
You can change the Brush tip sizing shortcuts

I don't use a keyboard at all.
But I remapped the keys same as what you have there (; + ')
Think that's the easiest solution. Thank you for the idea

If you do not use a keyboard at all why this thread and how do you use Photshop fast without a keyboard?

keyboard buttons that I would use on a keyboard (B=brush, N=Mixer brush, etc) are mapped to buttons on a graphics tablet (and pen), so the quick access buttons are mapped to B, N, S, etc. That way I don't need a keyboard.
I only use the keyboard for work that is not illustration (which I hardly ever do).

But spring-loading the Eyedropper Tool only needs the alt-key, why do you press the square bracket key?

If you hold alt, and pick a color, then resize your brush immediately (either before you've fully let go of alt, or too quick for your computer to register) then it reads as alt + [
It's only really a problem for people who work fast and use a tablet where the brackets are on a scroll pad on the quick tool-bar (where I usually keep my left hand), and alt is, in my case, on the pen. So clicking them simultaneously happens often when your mapping is set up in such a way that the keys are always where your hands are at any given time (for the sake of efficiency) and you pick and resize in a flash.
If that makes sense.

If your mapping is such that you cannot ensure that you actually press the keys you want to press it might be worth rethinking it.
What benefit do you see in resizing the Brushes with the shortcuts instead of ctrl-alt-click-dragging?

It worked fine on most tablets, think Huion has a few millisecond delay after pressing anything before it knows you're not pressing anything anymore.
The benefit is the built-in scroll bar on the table which is mapper to the brackets; swiping up makes the brush larger. Probably the easiest system I've ever used for that. Also among the main reasons I got this a tablet like in the first place.
