Bridge to ACR to Photoshop Workflow (Was "Help Please")

I use the current version of PS on Windows 10. My workflow is to 1) examine photos in Bridge (started from PS File menu), 2) double-click on images to be worked on which opens them in Camera Raw, then 3) after manipulating them in Camera Raw I open them in PS.

My problem is that the original image is being replaced when I go into PS.

I've looked through the PS, Camera Raw and Bridge preferences and have not been able to find the setting that's causing this.

Do you have any thoughts?

THANK YOU!

The image hasn't been replaced with the edit. Bridge is displaying the non destructive edit that was done in ACR. You can see the small icons in the upper right corner of the thumbnail that show the image has an edit and a crop applied to it. If you view the folder with Explorer, you will see an extra file has been added. It will have the same file name as the image with the extension .xmp. This is called a sidecar file. If you move it, or delete it the image will return to it's original state when viewed in Bridge.

You have several options in the ACR dialog box to move the file into Photoshop, after completing your corrections:

  1. Save Image... You can save one or more images in any format you like, click Done to close the ACR dialog box and then open those in Photoshop.
  2. Open Object Opens the raw file, but when you choose File > Save, Photoshop does not overwrite the raw file, it offers a .PSD format (and you can choose a different format)
  3. If you hover over Open Object, you will see two additional options, including holding Shift as you click on Open Object to open your edited image as a smart object.

What exactly do you do in Photoshop?

In which format of you save the file in Photoshop?

Could you please post screenshots including the pertinent Panels and dialogs?

The image is replaced without my saving it in PS.  I've attached screenshots to show the process.

That seems to be as expected.

When you edit the RAW image in ACR before opening it in Photoshop the changes are stored.

But the cropping of the RAW image is non-destructive and can be undone.
