Camera Raw with Canon 5D Mark IV [and Photoshop CS6]

New Here ,
Sep 19, 2018 Sep 19, 2018

I currently just purchased the Canon EOS 5D MarkIV.  Of course this was an upgrade from my Mark III.  I do plan on using both cameras.  My first question is, can I use the same version of Camera Raw with both cameras? I shot in RAW yesterday using the new camera (MarkIV).  I go to open up in PS (CS6) and of course I receive an error message saying "Photoshop cannot open this file.  If you are attempting to open a raw file from a digital camera, make sure you have the latest Camera Raw update installed.  (Camera Raw 9.1.1), thats what Im currently using.  I cannot figure out what exact version I need to open up these files.  Please help me because I am completely lost.

No. The Mark III requires Camera Raw 7.1 or later. The Mark IV requires Camera Raw 9.7 or later.

Cameras supported by Camera Raw

However CS6 is only compatible with Camera Raw up to version 9.1.1 so you'll never be able to open Mark IV Raw files in CS6.

Options:

1. Join the Cloud, or

2. Download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert Mark IV Raw files to DNG format, then open the DNG files in CS6.

Hi TaraJoyce,

The Canon 5D Mark IV requires Camera raw 9.7 or above whereas EOS Mark III shold work with Camera raw 9.1.1.

Photoshop CS6 can only be updated to use Camera raw 9.1.1.

If you'd like to process the images from your new camera, please convert the raw images to DNG's and then work with them in Photoshop. Refer this article to know how to use DNG converter: Adobe Digital Negative Converter

Thanks,

Akash

Thanks for the response.  Im just having a hard time understanding everything though.  So you're saying that their is no way to load my images into Camera Raw from the MarkIV? I normally load straight into camera raw with my Mark III and adjust temps and noise because its easier that way. I downloaded something to my computer that says CameraRaw_9_12_1 but I have no idea what Im doing.

Hopefully you've ignored it. It won't help you. That's version nine point twelve point one (11 dot releases later than 9.1.1). It's only compatible with CC.

CS6 cannot be updated past 9.1.1.
