Hi

”From my files” can mean a couple of things. Can you describe your process?

We need more info to help you,

If you drag and drop multiple files in to the Photoshop interface with no opened images, you will open all those images in multiple tabs

If you drag and drop multiple files in to the Photoshop interface and if you have an image opened, you will place those images (if you hit the return or enter keys)

What OS and What version of Photoshop are you using and how are you trying to drag and drop images?

For example here I have a new document open in Photoshop. I'm using Windows 10 and Photoshop CC 2019 version 20.0.4.

Then Opening Windows File explorer I navigated to a folder containing  JPEG images.  I select some images  by clicking on the when I have the control key  pressed.  Once I have all the images I want to use highlighted.  I Drag them over on top of the open document in Photoshop and drop them.

When I do that Photoshop Places them into the Open document as smart object layers one image at  a Time. I have to interactively accept or adjust Photoshop's Place transform for each image dropped onto the open document.  Once accepted or adjusted the smart object layer is created and Photoshop moves onto the next image file that was dropped onto the open document.

Please elaborate on what steps you are taking to drag and paste. The more detail the better.
