How to Upscale/Improve this Logo?

Explorer ,
Feb 15, 2019 Feb 15, 2019

Hi!

I have a picture of this Logo that's from a 1987 VHS Box Cover so the quality isn't great but I was wondering if somebody could give me some Tips on how to fix the rough Edges and how to make it just a Black and White Outlined image, no color. I've inserted the Logo Selection PNG and the VHS Box down below so that way you guys can check it out and maybe get an idea on how to improve the quality and remove the rough edges. I would sincerely appreciate the help! Thank you and God bless!

Do you have an original copy of the logo scan/photo that has not been manipulated?

This is the best that I can offer you as a start point for further cleanup/edits:

Work from the best quality original.

Smart blur filter.

Preserve Details 2 upsizing.

Curves.

Threshold filter.

Create it using vector graphic so you can scale it to any size you need or create it very large for scaling down  in size works better that scaling up in size. Scaling that raster image up in size will just make it worse.

Place or open image in Photoshop (or Illustrator) then trace contour using Pen tools. I will recommend to you to use Shape drawing mode so you have each letter on separate layer what is easier to manipulate and modify. Later you can merge layers or to group/convert to Smart Object for some effect as needed.

I'm thinking that the font might be called something like Candy ???  The font below is called Candy Cane, but needs a bit of work to get the look in the poster.  Something definitely easier to do in Illustrator
