To anyone having issues with the Black and White squares, launch Bridge and go to Camera Raw Preferences and at the bottom of the window make sure that "use graphic processor" is UNCHECKED.

This is a temporary work around but it'll at least make the squares disappear.

I am also having the same issue. Uncheckign the boxes and restarting it DID NOT fix it.

Hi, what worked for me was disabling artboards. It seems artboards are the issue from my end. Try disabling artboards see if it works. When you create a new canvas just untick the artboards option and see if it works, it did for me.

In bridge go to camera raw preferences then go to performance

under Use Graphics Processor set Custom and check Use GPU for image processing

it worked for me. I am using Windows 10 Pro 64 bit

These white and black boxes have been driving me nuts.  Thank you for your helpful tip.  I did uncheck that box "Use Graphics Processor" in both Photoshop and Bridge.  So far, that seems to be the ticket.  I do get a white bounding box outside my photo now but that I can live with.  Thanks for your help.

Thanks Chris! solved my problem. But what does it mean to uncheck "use graphic processor". Does it interfere anything else in Bridge or PS CC?

As far as I know, that particular option in ACR only affects cosmetic performance in ACR (such as scrubby zoom). I think it helps with acceleration of other tools too but don't quote me.

No solution on my 27" iMac (only 8 months old & running the latest OS)  - I wonder how many users this effects & if Adobe are aware of it ? Strange that it also happening on some Windows machines as well !!

It seems that this may be caused by a video card driver issue. Apparently on MacOS, these issues are common on MacOS 10.10, and Apple is working on solutions.

Did you try in PS go to file> preferences > performance. You should see a check box "Use graphics Processor". Uncheck that close down PS and then restart PS. Then go back and recheck the box "Use graphics Processor". Close down and then restart PS and see if it the problem persists. I've tried that and so far I've not seen the problem occur but as it is random with me only time will tell! I'm running Windows and all my drivers were up to date before the problem started so I'm thinking that maybe doing the above somehow "cleared" the conflict between PS and the graphics driver.

Something similar started to happen to me yesterday and again today. Mainly when I use the zoom tool large white squares appear over the image in random positions. If I zoom back down they disappear but reappear if I zoom up again. It doesn't happen everytime and if I save the image, shut down PS and reopen they have disappeared. It also happened with the crop tool, so maybe linked to resizing of the image on screen?

I'm running Windows 7 (64 bit). As I said it only started to happen yesterday, has happened again today. No changes whatsoever have been made to the computer system.

Any help as to what is causing this would be much appreciated.

Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?

If so your GPU driver may need updating.

    Thanks for you input.

It doesn't seem to have an effect. I check for updates every day for my graphics card (Nvidia) so I know I have all the latest drivers.
