Move Selection on layer to position without pixel content ??? which key to press ??? ...

I am shure there was the option to move a selection without moving the pixel content selected by holding down a key, this does not work any more. I think it was the spacebar and I could move the blank selection to the wanted position. Wasn't it the space bar?

Do I now really have to select "transform selection" to move it on layer without moving the content?

I tried all keys and did not find it.

Hi

You can use Ctrl + Alt left click to move a selection while you have another tool selected, or the spacebar while you're making a selection

or just use the move tool

Hi

The way you worded this can be interpreted multiple ways, so please clarify if I have this wrong.

If you are still making a selection and it’s in the wrong place, you can use spacebar+drag to move the selection marquee. If you release the mouse, however, the spacebar+drag shortcut pans the page instead.

The trick is to never let go of the mouse until the selection is finished.

If you are still on one of the Marquee tools (M) you can just move the selection without any modifier keys. If you are on Move tool (V) it would move the content of the selection.

I am not sure what exactly you want to ask but will give a try: after creating selection you can move it freely without affecting selected pixels just by moving cursor inside selection then click and drag. For this to work you must have selection tool like Lasso or Rectangular Marquee Tool active and new selection in the Options bar. New selection is the first icon from the left.

If you have selection and selection tool active plus new selection in the Options bar then just move mouse over selection and when mouse becomes white arrow just click and drag to reposition selection.
