Anyone else having problems with taking the time to do a detailed clipping path using the pen tool, then going to the paths menu to select the object you just clipped and photoshop does not accurately grab the image area you have clipped? It seems like it ignores the inner areas of the clipping path. Very frustrating!
So far I have to dupe the clipping path, delete the outer path on my dupe, then select the image with both the duped path (minus the outside area) then delete the unwanted areas, then do the same with the original path. Very time conusming!
Thoughts anyone? Adobe please read and let me know how to fix this.

Can you post a screen shot? did you use the path selection tool to select the entire path and all it's subpaths? Normally after creating a path, only part of it is actually selected, which causes issues.

Sure Chuck (love the first name btw haha!). The shot on the left shows the path I created. The shot on the right shows the selection the path makes when either doing a command-shift click on the path or choosing "Make selection" from the path menu. As you can see it has not selected the inner areas. Thanks for your help!

What are the subPathItems’ Path Operation settings? If they are »Combine Shapes« then the result would be as expected and as you created the Path,

I have tried all of the settings (after creating the path) and none change the outcome. Does the seting have to be set when creating the path? Thanks!

Select all the subPathItems and change the setting; this can be done after they have been created, so no problem.

Tried that and it still is not picking up the internal path items. ??????? But thanks!

Please post a meaningful screenshot with all the subPathItems selected and the Options Bar and the Paths Panel visible.
And please post a jpg with the path in question. (jpgs can include paths, so that should not be a problem.)

Sorry I can't tell from the tiny icon in the screenshots - blame the forum 🙂 are the internal sub paths subtracted?
Sorry - I've just seen c.p.'s reply asking the same. Ignore me 🙂

Did you ever get this figured out? I've had the same problem for months. All I know is, since the beginning of PS, you could clip the outside edges of a shape and as many inner shapes as needed, make the selection and EVERYTHING would select. And now it's all different. Only the outer shape selects. I've tried everything that was suggested in this forum as well as anything else I could find on the subject. And for anyone else reading this, the COMBINE SHAPES literally does nothing.

Can you post a PSD with a clipping path that exhibits this behavior? (URL via dropbox or CC files)

Hello,
I faced this problem but I fixed it by grabbing all of the inner item paths and bringing them to front - so that my outter path was on the bottom. This fixed it.

What are the Path Operation settings of the Path’s elements?

Hi Jeffrey, just started experiencing the same problem today. Have been working in Photoshop creating paths all day, and this afternoon, BOOM, this issue appeared out of nowhere! I'm trying to put a file in Dropbox for you, but it's asking for a name/email address to share the file with. Or is there some other way I need to save this file for you?

This was so frustrating! But this worked for me... With the path tool selected, hold command, click and drag to select all of the nodes in the path. Then choose Exclude Overlapping Shapes from the path menu bar (pic). After this was selected, I was able to command-click on the path layer and the inner shapes were selected as well.

click and drag to select all of the nodes in the path.
Not strictly necessary, a subPathItem’s Path Operation can be changed no matter whether all the PathPoints are selected or not just as long as it is selected at all.

Yes, this worked for me as well. Thank you!

If you read the thread you will see that Adobe's @J453 replied and asked for a file showing the problem - but got no response.........
