What ever you do not upgrade your OS, as the 10.11.6 might be the issue versus 10.11

Older versions of Photoshop system requirements

What  is happening when you try to boot CS4, how far exactly do you get?

Thank you for your attempts to help

The answer to your question is - when I open and close the program - I get no where

As for OS X - I have a Mac Book Pro … and its is set up for automatic updates

Well, you're running an obsolete system. But keep doing that, because it's the only chance you have of running such ancient apps. Be sure you understand the risks of opting out of running up to date systems, which brings with it the joy of repurchasing many apps.

Did you ever have a trial of CC loaded on this computer?
