Resizing a watermark for multiple photos

Hiya, this glitch is driving me insane - please help!!!

I've looked at loads of tutorials on watermarking images and have set up an action all fine.

Then I go to watermark a batch of about 100, and about 2/3 of them come out perfect (picture 1) but on others, the logo comes out MASSIVE (pic 2) and I don't know why. I've looked at so many conflicting video tutorials so hoping somebody on here can help.

Somebody on another thread suggested making the logo massive and then resizing it by a % when placing onto the image, and making that part of the action, but then all of them came out huge.

Thank you!
Lizzie

PS: I've used these tutorials, amongst others:

Record step to change resolution and position it at the top, before Place step.

  • Ensure that you have image open in Photoshop. Image resolution can be any beside 72
  • Select action in the Actions panel
  • Click begin recording button in the Actions panel
  • Go to Image > Image Size
  • Uncheck Resample Image
  • Type 72 in the Resolution field and confirm
  • Stop recording
  • You should have step Image Size at the bottom of action. When expanded it should have data only about Resolution
  • Drag step Image Size at the beginning o

Have you tried with free Watermark CC to accomplish that task? Watermark for Adobe Photoshop CC (English)

What are the pixel dimensions and resolutions of

• images where the action succeeded and

• images where it produced an undesired result?

In your examples it seems to be 72ppi and 300ppi.

That can make a significant difference.

Well, I was told to resize the images so they were all the same, which I did using this method: https://www.digitalartsonline.co.uk/tutorials/photoshop/how-resize-multiple-images-in-photoshop/

But they have come out different size again once I rand the watermark action (see below).

Please post a screenshot of the expanded Action and Action Steps in the Actions Panel.

According to the screenshot they have the same pixel dimensions, so what do. you mean?

I can't screen shot it atm, but it's just Place > Rasterize > Transform current layer > Align Current Layer (right) > Align current layer (bottom)

I also tried without rasterizing, but it's the same thing, some work, some don't.

Re the size, I resized the images as above, so yeah they're the same dimension, but in terms of the size, one is 1.2 MB and the other is 920KB

That is irrelevant as the effect of image compression (including the lossy jpg compression) depends on the image content.

I can't screen shot it atm

Say what – an automated teller machine?

Please post the requested screenshot.

FAQ: How do I capture and post a screen shot or video?

And have you considered the resolution issue I mentioned in post 2 yet?

If the images with unexpected results have a different resolution than those with the expected results then address that.

but it's just Place > Rasterize > Transform current layer > Align Current Layer (right) > Align current layer

Why do you rasterize the placed Smart Object, in particular before transformation?

That’s flabbergasting to me.

I can't screen shot as I'm at on a work PC, not on my mac, here's a pic of it.IMG_4079.JPG

Ahh I'm getting confused, I sent you images of two of the pictures, one worked and one didn't, and they are the same size.

Where is the resolution size then, if this is different?

One of the tutorials I linked to said to rasterize. I tried it because it my previous attempts hadn't worked. But that didn't either.

The link I included in the previous post contains instructions for taking screenshots on Windows.

And please expand the individual steps in the Actions Panel, too.

Right here's the two images. one that worked, one that didn't. As I said, I changed them so they are the same size.

No no, I know how to screen shot. But I'm on my work PC, which doesn't have Photoshop. I have my mac next to me which does, but it not connected to the internet.

Thanks for this, but can I just check, if the resolution is only 72, won't it be a poor quality image? I thought it needed to be around 300?

Changing image resolution with Resample turned off will not change image quality it will just change data about resolution. If you need to print images then simply record step to change resolution to 300 as already mentioned and position that step at the beginning of action. In that case you will need to re-record and some other steps like Transform current layer because you will need different scaling factor.

Another option is to record step to change resolution to 72 and position it at the beginning of action to get desired result with already recorded steps. Record one more step to change resolution to 300 and position it at the end of action.

An Action could include a step to resize images to the same resolution (Image > Image Size with »Resample« unchecked).

And to homogenise the watermark placement on different sizes one could use »Select All« and »Align …«.
