Audio messed up when added to timeline

When I import an audio file into the timeline, it messes it up.  It sort of sounds like the audio is either echoed or is being fast forwarded.  I've included a quick video.  It's an MP3 file.  Any ideas on what the issue is?

Convert mp3 to wave with Audacity first.

Import file instead of dragging.

Make sure default input in audio hardware in Pref is set to none.

Thank you!  That solved it.  My default input was not set to "none".  I appreciate the help.
