audio waves not visible in timeline of Premiere Elements 2024

I use Windows 11 on desktop computer.
I tried by restarting the program and rebooting the system to no avail.

Mouse click the "arrow" so that it looks like the one above it.

When I click on the arrow, the audio track displays a straight line

Expand the track vertically.

the expanded audio  track makes no difference
I think I will re-install Premiere Elements since I also have the problem of the video tracks displaying as a black screen
