Choppy and slow editing in Premiere Elements 2021

I have a 2017 iMac with 24 GB of ram, an i5 3.8Ghz processor and a Radeon Pro 580 8 GB graphics card. 

I am presently trying out the 2021 Premiere Elements trial version which says it doesn's support GPU acceleration. I have the comercial product on order and am waiting for it to be delivered.

My question is, will the GPU acceleration in the full version make a big difference in the choppy slow editing?  If not I think I will return the unopened version once I recieve it, as I find the present choppy and slow performance very frustrating and almost unusable.....

There are only 2 Radeon cards in the list, and your card isn't one of them

My GTX760 card isn't supported, even though the GTX750 is... so if a card is not explicitly listed, it will not work for gpu acceleration

Thanks for the info.  Premiere Elements 2021 says in the preferences that my video card is supported.

I also didn't mention in my orginal submission that my i5 processor is a quad core processor, and that I am running Big Sur as the operating system.

The help doc states:

All graphics cards are supported for GPU acceleration on macOS. Below is the list of recommended cards.

followed by a list of cards alas but not yours (think it will do ok).

If it is the same as on a Windows PC, in Edit > Preferences > General, there are two settings you can change.  One is Hardware Acceleration and the other is Timeline Render Quality.   Try changing those settings from what they are to the other choice.  In Edit > Preferences > Audio Hardware there is a setting to select Default Input.  If not already, make that "None".   

Also, be sure your project setting are being set up to match your source video.  (What is the source video and what are the project settings?)

If those don't make editing smoother and you don't want to exercise the option of  "rendering the timeline", you might be wise to assume that your i5 CPU is not up to the task.   iMovie may be your best choice.

My bad... I had to scroll further down to see the Mac list... which does not show your card

• AMD Radeon pro 560x compute engine
• AMD Radeon Pro 555 Computer Engine

did you ever load the full version and did it make a change to choppy editing ?

Yes I did end up going with the full version after Adobe Support told me that my video card was supported and that it should run flawlessly. Wrong. Still choppy but not quite as bad. Don’t know what it is because DaVincie, Pinnacle and other video editing software run fine.

I am running dual monitors, if I move Premier elements to my old second monitor HP w2338h running a native display profile (default profile 1080p) it seems to run ok. If I move it to the iMac it gets choppy. The iMac is running native (default 2560x1440) as well.

I still wonder if this is a macOS BigSur problem, with the Adobe graphic card interface, even though they claim any apple graphic card will work.

Anyone out there who can verify Premier Elements running flawless?
