I have a Clip, that I took in front of a Greenscreen. Now I want to remove the green background and export the Clip with Transparent Background. (I plan to make a GIF out of it.)
How do I do this with Premiere Elements? Or do I need a different software?

I have never used it, but search the help for
Chroma Key

That's not something you can do in Premiere Elements, Stefanie. It's more of an After Effects process.

Thanks! In this case it was a wrong investment, but at least I know now!:-)

Yes you can do this with Elements.
remove green screen with Chroma Key and export with
Advanced settings > Quicktime > Animation codec and 8 bpc+alpha

Are you on a Mac or PC?
I'm interested to hear if Ann's idea works.

Windows and Mac should work.
For some reason, Ultra Key does not work: it shows black and white.

In my Premiere Elements 2023 I have no Chroma Key (or can't find it). If I put the Ultra Key, the whole video is b&w.
Can I download the Chroma Key Somewhere?

As I show in the tutorial I posted above, you can use the Videomerge tool on either version. The Mac version does not include Chroma Key, but Videomerge creates the same effect.

When I follow every step shown in Steve's video my version 2021 shows the Chroma Key option
Did you do the steps exactly as shown in Steve's video?
I know that "some" things were removed from V2023 (such as the ability to author a DVD) but since I don't have it I don't know if your version still has Chroma key or not

Ok, tried the whole tutorial. Still no Chroma Key, as I'm on Mac, but I used Videomerge.
However... now I have a different background. I want the background transparent in the exported video.
Did I miss anything?

Just put the videomerge on the clip, do not put a clip under the videomerge.

Tried it. But then it looks like this background is just grey instead of green, but doesn't disappear 🤷:female_sign:

You have two videomerges applied...........
Green screen is tricky.
You need proper lightning (usually 3 lamps), no creases in the fabric and step away from the fabric, so no shadow is cast.

Tried it again and the result is this
But now I can't export it with the (hopefully) transparent background, as I don't have the options you wrote above.
Thanks for your help! Didn't think it was so complicated.

Advanced setting is found under Devices/Custom.

Thank you so much! Found it all now. However after Export, I can't open it any more. Says, it's not compatible with QuickTime. I think I'll give up!

You will have to install the Quicktime codec.

Which QuickTime Codec? I googled it and found several.

There is but one.

Installed. However it still doesn't let me open my exported video🤷:female_sign: Says "not compatible".
Think I'll get the free trial of Premiere Pro or Final Cut. There it seems to be quite easy.
But thank you so much for trying!

As Mentioned above, in case of windows there is an option of Chroma Key in effects. In case of Mac you can use Videomerge tool for it
