Hi,
With PE21, I use .MTS files recorded in 1080p and audio 5.1 with my camcorder. With PE21, I create a project AVCHD with audio 5.1, and PE21 creates an audio Track 1 which is 5.1.
When I insert my 5.1 MTS file into the timeline, instead a putting the audio just on the Audio Track 1, PE21 puts the audio on 6 tracks (cf. attached picture).
I made the same thing with an audio 5.1 mp4 file, and I had the same issue
How to fix that ?
Thx

Despite Premiere Elements appearing to have project settings for working with 5.1 audio, the program just doesn't seem to be able to do it anymore. 5.1 audio almost always leads to buggy behavior.
I'd recommend sticking with stereo if you plan to edit in Premiere Elements. (I can show you how to easily convert these videos to stereo.)

Yes please! What is your preferred way to convert 5.1 to "stereo" Steve? Thanks.

Hi,
Adobe user guide says it is compatible with 5.1
https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-elements/using/5-1-audio-import.html
So, I expect that Adobe delivers a product in line with their commitment and with the product specification they indicate, which allows to use and produce 5.1 audio.
Using stereo instead of 5.1 leads to a degradation of film quality. It is as if you were proposing to make a video in VGA with a source in full HD or 4K !
So what is the way to do to be able to do things the way they are decribed in the use guide ?
Best regards.

When I accidently managed to change the setting on my Panasonic HD Camcorder from Stereo to 5.1 and thus all clips from a vacation were in this mode I used Handbrake to convert the clips I decided to use.
I noticed no degredation in the HD video quality.

Thanks. I've done the same with some Panasonic footage. Handbrake works well for a lot of things.

Here's my tutorial on converting incompatible video and audio to editable video and audio.
And,. yes, I know Adobe CLAIMS Premiere Elements is compatible with 5.1 audio. But real world experience seems to indicate otherwise, IMHO.

Thx Steve. The problem is that I have paid for a software which does not do what is indicated. In that case I need to buy another soft. But do you think that Adobe will reimburse my PE purchase ?

Handbrake is free. So there is not additional cost. Adobe does have a satisfaction guarantee for the Elements software. If I remember right, it is limited to 30 days and you have to have purchased it directly from Adobe, not a retailer.

Ok thx. Too bad, it s not my case. But it is a pity that a product does not do what it is supposed to and that you have to be charged for this in any case. Anyway, thx for your help.
