Transcript moves away from focus

Participant ,

This is a complaint about transcript. There are way to many times it "looses it's place" when you're editing. In this case, I'm putting down a chapter marker to a spot I think will make a good TikTok. When I mark it, I like to look at the text for inspiration on the label, but the text jumps to the top of the transcript.

I have to keep a mental note because I cannot move the transcript until I close the chapter marker box.

This happens when I save my work - it'll jump away from the marker point until I hit play or move the head.

Is there a way to make this not happen?

@geekazine,

Yes, this is not desirable behavior. I have never looked at that before. I am Win10, Beta 24.1.0 Build 39. What Build are you?

If auto-scroll is on or off, as soon as you open the Marker dialogue box, the Text panel resets to the beginning. You don't see this if the beginning of the transcript is already in view when you open the Marker dialogue box.

I just confirmed that this problem is also present in the current Release version 23.6.0.

Steps to reproduce:

Select partition of text

Hit M to mark, hit M again to open marker dialogue box, change something in there and hit Ok

Result: Playhead along with the text jumps and scrolls back to the begining
Expected: Stay on the marker (also could be somewhere in the preferences if it defaults to stay at the beginning or at the end of the duration marker after it's been created)

@Eugene Mogrts,

I have not tested in the latest Beta, but I can confirm it is still present in Release 24.3.0. Note that the "jump" occurs as soon as you open the Marker dialogue box.

Update. This thread, with posts merged from other threads, is related to the symptom of the transcript resetting to the beginning in the Text Panel/Transcript tab. This thread was started by @geekazine Oct 2023, where the cause was opening the Marker Dialogue Box. It was identified in Beta 24.1.0 Build 39 and confirmed in Release 23.6.0. I can replicate in Beta 25.2.0.95 and Release 25.0.0.

@Eugene Mogrts reported that it was also resetting the playhead in the timeline, but I was not able to replicate that.

@unique_person4993 reported that this occurred when using the right-click "Rename" (a clip) operation. I can replicate this in Beta 25.2.0.95 and Release 25.0.0. It occurs even if the focus is on the second of 2 clips in a sequence, that clip is untranscribed clip, and the rename is applied to that clip. The transcript tab resets to the beginning of the transcribed clip. If a third clip (untranscribed) is added (insert to the beginning), the focus is on clip 3 (old clip 2), rename is applied to clip 3, the transcript tab does not reset. This is true even if clip 1 is now transcribed. If the playhead is then in the second clip, as soon as rename is opened, the transcript resets to the top of the sequence (clip 1 transcript).

Another thread (@Blue-Marble "Transcription jumps to beginning when saving text edit") reported that it occurred when saving a text edit in the Text Panel/Transcript tab, but we were never able to replicate that problem.

@Kerstin Ebert reported 5/21/24 that staff were aware of the issue (marker dialogue), but there's been no update.
