Common crash cause discovered during auto save.

I have determined the cause of a common crash that I get in Premiere Pro. I'm not sure if there is a way of solving this.

It is a simple as if you hit a key during the autosave process the program will generally crash. This mostly happens when I'm editing captions on the screen but I'm reasonalbly certain that it can happen on any editing function if you just happen to hit a key at the wrong time. Here's one way of replicating.

1. Typing into a new graphic and auto save function begins

2. Program crashes but importantly the auto-save is not lost and re-opening restores the project pretty much where you left off minus a couple of keystrokes.

It's happened to me three times today, each time during an autosave but it's def happened before but for some reason I only made the connection now... doh!

Good info, thanks John.

Another thing to consider: When saving (auto- or normal) is invoked, PPro prepares numerous items for disk storage; this could be instigating the problem.

We have received zero crash reports, with your email address; please send them, whenever you encounter the issue.

where are the autosaves going?  Maybe try changing the drive destination...

I cannot say for sure it is the keystrokes. It just seems to be common. I'm working really fast at something, I'm in the middle of an edit - maybe adjusting audio, PP goes to autosave and crashes.

Do I know if it's every time? Nope - because I'm not always aware of when PP is autosaving - it's pretty quick.

Version 25.1.0 Build 73 - yes I do have PP setup to send crash reports but I didn't send any that time, I was in a hurry to get a job out to a client.

Hi @JOHN MONDO,

Would you happen to have Premiere set to send crash reports to Adobe?  Can you provide a video showing the crash?  Which version of Premiere are you in?

Bizarre.
Auto-saving is handled as a background process; it's not listening for keystrokes, or user input, at all.

Are you saying that, EVERY time you're editing text (in a new text layer) and auto-save occurs, PPro crashes?
