Lighting Effects loses masks when reopening the project

When applying a mask for lighting effects, upon reopening the project, the mask vanishes. The mask worked perfectly originally and the keyframes for said mask are still there, but the outline of the mask no longer shows when trying to edit it, nor does the effect render. The only solution to this is to remove the keyframes and recreate the effect, and occasionally it will function correctly when reopening the project, remaining how it should do with no further issues. I cannot see the mask on 10%, it has not moved, but has lost all its points. 

Recreating the effect becomes annoying at scale and time-consuming; would appreciate some ideas.
