P: adobe premiere error 0xc0000142

Community Beginner ,
Jun 21, 2025 Jun 21, 2025

I had an issue with Premiere not sending the projects to Encoder, then I noticed they both have a new update so unfortunately I updated them.

Since then I am can't start either of them getting the error 0Xc0000142 message. Other adobe applications such as After Effects, Audition and Photoshop are still working fine.

I have tried the following fixes depending on what I found on the internet:

* Uninstall and reinstall the applications.

* Turn off / Unplug my second monitor. (tried with both monitors).

* Made sure windows is up to date.

* Reverted to an older version of windows.

* Disable all windows startup programs.

* Turn off windows defender / enable premiere and adobe CC through it.

My PC is strong enough for the CC applications, and I never had any issue with them while they are running, but I am noticing that everytime there is an update I am facing a new issue right afterwards.

Any idea what I can do? I was working on a project I need to export ASAP!

Good day Adobe Community,

To avoid this error, we are simply rolling back to the previous versions of Premiere Pro, Media Encoder, After Effects and Audition.

This error occurs when we attempt to load any of these apps of the latest updates through normal means, such as a desktop icon, etc. If we attempt to load these apps via CC hub, nothing happens, not even an error message shows.

Since rolling back fixes everything and there is no mission critical functions that are needed in the latest updates for us, we will simply wait it out before updating again.

Attached is an example of the error message.

Wow, that would be annoying.

I've got the full CC subscription, use a number of the apps on my PC, and haven't had this ... ever. So I'm wondering where to start.

Such as ... did you try holding down shift on launch, and selecting to delete all cache files? Or reset prefs?

The whole update process in the creative cloud app seems to be rotten - it started with: cannot open premiere 25.2.3 with the error code "corrupt or not fully loaded ". Opening u the creative cloud app, which tried to update to 25.3 but it is stuck at 13% . So nothing works. I tried to uninstall premiere pro but as this only works through the Creatie cloud app it fails to.

Now what?

Good day Adobe Community,

I have good news, bad news and weird news.

The good news is, my personal PC, a 3 1/2 year old Dell XPS tower with Windows Home edition, installed all four of these CC updates using the federated account with no problem (using the same license, of course, as per two device usage). As expected, the old taskbar pinned icons disappeared, and I pinned the new ones. Each app opens fine.

I recall, about a month or so ago, on our older Dell tower Precision workstations (about 3 year old machines that are going back), the installation process went the same way.

However, the new installations, with the very 'new' Windows (we use Enterprise edition also), is not working so well with our Dell Mobile Precisions. So we will refrain from installing these new updates for a while, which works out for us, as we have an extended project set that will last for about another month, so there is no use updating in the middle of a project set.

Attached is confirmation of the same error message, when attempting again, to install the newer updates. As the picture shows, I even went to the file.exe and held down the shift key, etc. The apps also do not open up in the CC hub at all, as in, not even an error message may flash.

Yet when I revert back to the previous versions, they work fine.

Even more strange (this is the weird news), we have a multi-purpose Dell Mobile Precision also on hand, as a backup editing machine—does not even call for the new updates! I even activated the check updates button and the new updates do not show (yet). Of course, this account on this machine is not our personal accounts, but more of a department account, but generally set up the same way. So I find it really strange that the updates do not even show up for this particular machine set.

The very new Windows does have some quirks, but there is nothing we do to alter any installation parameters, its whatever the defaults are.

We will try some more things again about 3 to 4 weeks from now, as we do need some Dell updates, such as docking station firmware.

What version of Windows are you using? How did you 'revert'?

I ended up reverting to an older version of Premiere and Encoder. This helped me finish my job, but still for some reason Premiere doesn't send projects properly to Encoder so I had to export through Premiere itself.

But yeah, as for the error 0xc0000142, only reverting to older versions of the adobe products helped me with that.

I was in hurry when I wrote the post and I think I didn't phrase that line correctly. You can uninstall any widnows update that was done recently, just type "uninstall updates" on the search bar and you can see each update with its date and time.

I tried remove AE, Media encoder and Premiere, and re-installed them from cloud desktop. Nothing

Good day Adobe Community,

After waiting a few weeks, I reinstalled the newest builds and the error messages are gone and the apps are loading as normal. One of my coworkers, she also had the exact same thing happen (same PC specs) and had to revert to the previous builds, but appears that the apps are loading normal with the latest builds.

Thank you for the fix!

Bonjour,

First, are both Premiere and Auditiont the same 'version' ... check the specific numbers in the Help menu "About ... " item.

Second suggestion, reboot the computer, launch Audition, then launch Premiere and try.

Greetings Adobe Community,

Affecting multiple machine builds, the latest Windows update 24H2 is not allowing mission critical Adobe Apps to load, such as Premiere Pro and Media Encoder. Unless IT rolls back 24H2 across the Enterprise for an entire department, we have to roll back previous versions of various Adobe apps to avoid the app loading conflicts.

A screenshot is attached as an example for Media Encoder.

Windows Build causing issue - 2025-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5063878) (26100.4946)

Error message produced - 0xc0000142

Temporary fix - Roll back versions of conflicting Adobe apps (or roll back Windows 24H2 if not on Enterprise system).

Example versions that bypass the Windows 24H2 conflict:

Media Encoder 25.2 - two versions back

Premiere Pro 25.2.3 - two versions back

After Effects 25.2.2 - four versions back!

Audition 25.2 - one version back

Photoshop 26.10 - lastest version, no roll back required

This is also the same Windows update that is reported to cause SSDs and HHDs to disappear (not physically, of course) with particular brand names much more affected.

Are you using Black Magic drivers/cards in your system?

I noticed errors like this with a laptop today.

If you uninstall Black Magic and after testing Premiere, install the BM drivers it's fixed.

I still have this problem.

Adobe Creative Cloud will not let me update or download an older version of
PP. I would like a refund for this month as I haven't been able to use PP
and instead have to use Final Cut.

I got the 0xc0000142 this morning.

Pr, Ae and Me all stopped working.

Yesterday (2025-09-10) everything worked fine.

I noticed premiere was updated to version 25.5 this morning. Wich means, 25.4.1 was working.

Installed 25.4.1 again and rebooted my system - still doesn't work. Went back to version 24.? and it worked again. (but I could't open my recent projects)

Ended up intalling version 25.0 for all 3 programs (Pr, Ae and Me). Now I am able to finish my projects, but I can't change attributes like color and size for my subtitles in the most recent project 😕

Systeminfo when the error occured:

Pr: version 25.5
Ae: version 25.4

Me: version 25.5

Microsoft Windows 10 Pro, Version 10.0.19045 Build 19045

Nvidia driverversion 572.83 (studio driver)

UPDATE - 2025-10-03

Just updated to Win 11 (Version 10.0.26100 Build 26100)
and decided to give the lastest version of Pr, Ae and Me another go.  I still get the error.

Then downloaded latest available Nvidia-driver (581.42) - still no luck.

Went back to version 25.3 for all three programs - error 😞

Back to 25.0 again -  luckily it still works in Win 11 😉

Hi guys,

Here I'm again to report something happening with me.

After editing for a while (8, 10 10 hours straight) I always get this error and Premiere becomes very slow, freezing a lot and taking a long time to perform tasks.

I have to close Premiere and reopen it to get back to it, but after a while, this error appears again.

CEPHtmlEngine error 0x0000142

I found out that this is an error with Adobe applications but I haven't found an exact solution.

Some say I have to reinstall some packages and others say to reinstall Adobe applications.

I've already reinstalled Premiere but it didn't solve the problem.

Does anyone have any tips on what I can do to solve this problem?

I got mine working with this help:

 Reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable:

It is a necessary component for many apps. If it’s corrupted, you’ll need to uninstall and reinstall it:

  • Open Control Panel (search for it in the Start menu).
  • Choose Uninstall a program.
  • Find Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable and uninstall it.
  • Download the latest version from the Microsoft website.
  • Run the downloaded file to install it.

I haven't got into the forum on a while, so just some updates:

After posting this, I reverted to an older version of premiere which worked, but I couldn't use adobe media encoder anymore (even after reverting it to the same version).

Today I updated premiere to the latest version again. and now I have this same error again. so absolutley nothing have changed.

I have tried every option and suggestion I found in this article and in other similar ones but nothing worked for me.

Additional update:
now I can't even revert to an older version using CC. it says it installed the older version, but keeps showing that it is at version 25.5 and still have the same problem!
