P: Premiere Pro V23.2.0 Frustrating Button Lag in Multicam Edit - Macbook Pro M1 Max & Studio Max

I have just started on a Multicam Edit on my new Apple M1 Max chip 32gb Ram Macbook Pro, and there is a terrible lag between selecting a camera on the keyboard and the edit action happening. This means that every edit is out by about half a second. This something my old 2015 Macbook never had an issue with. Of course I can go back through the whole thing and adjust each cut but this is a 80 min long film and the extra workload is so disappointing given these are supposed to be top notch machines!

I also have also tried to edit the same project on a Studio M1 Max and the issue is even worse on this machine. The machine gets stuck with the spinning wheel of death if you scrub forwards/backwards at speed...nightmare

The multi cam is three 1080HD H.264 video files and are stored on the same machine. Nothing fancy.

Any suggestions?

I have been working on 23.3 all day and have not had any problem with multicam editing. So it seems that they fixed it..With 23.2 it took about

2-3 hour with constantly multicam editing before it  all startes getting slow, today I worked for 7 hour and everything working fine..

Hi there i have come across a bug in build 23.2. on windows 10

When multicaming a sequence, the playhead never stops playing and the camera selections are laggy.

Premiere screen will go white and the playhead is still moving.

The fix was to roll back to 23.1.

I am having the same issue and wasted so much time troubleshooting this on multiple machines. I thought it was our network drives at first but I turns out it's the software. Please put out an update so we can finish out projects.

I downgraded my version to 23.1 and it also started working smoothly again. There must be a bug with 23.2 and multicam editing. What a waste of time that was. Seriously two days of trouble shooting hardware for nothing.

After downgrading to 23.1, plus all the other attempts to stop the spacebar problem (clear cache, global effects defeat, close Lumetri panel, exit out of Nvidia G-force and a few other things)... I have to admit 4-camera editing with proxies has never been smoother.

Loads of others reporting issues with Multicam on V23.2. This link recommends downgrading to V23.1

https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-bugs/multicam-play-back-does-not-stop-playing/idi-p/1362...

I have done this and I am no longer having any multicam issues...clearly a bug in V23.2

Thanks to this life-saving thread I downgraded to 23.1 and made it works normally again. I was really wondering what t.h. was happening. M1 Ultra 64GB ram, and it was not responding anymore with only 2 HD sources, like several minutes delay between a click and the actual computer response...

I downgraded and it worked OK at first, but now multicam playback is complete trash again. This worked 2 weeks ago, now it's trash. I guess I'll downgrade one more step?

Hey, Everyone! My computer is working great with Premiere Pro except with multicam editing. It works great for 3–4 minutes, and then I see the time indicator start to slow down and lag with a very slow response rate when I press any key, and then Premiere starts to not respond at all. That happens every time I use multicam editing (only multicam; everything else is working great). I've had this problem for a long time, and I use the most recent version of Premiere Pro, and everything is always up to date, including my drivers. Here are my computer's specifications. Check out the screenshot.
CPU: i8 8700k | Windows 11
Gigabyte GTX 1070 (I use GPU acceleration (CUDA) from Premiere Pro)
Could you please advise me on what I should do?
Would it be helpful to upgrade my graphic card?

Hi. I`m working a lot with multicam editing and after upgrading to 23.2 my timeline after a while just not working. If I stop using spacebar it takes 5-7 seconds before it respond and stops. If I zoom in and out, it takes seconds before anything happens. Everything is slow. This happens when my multicam window is open, if I close it, its better.  If I go back to 23.1 everything works fine.

23.2 should fix a problem with the timeline, but it seems to me that a new one occured.

I have the problem using both ProRes or XAVC 100 (MXF). I`m working on a Mac Studio, M1 Ultra (2022). Monterey 12.6. The files are about 2 hour long each

I have tried to delele cache and user several times.

I have the same problem on PC, Timeline lags when starting and jump and sometimes playback cant be stopped even if you press space. Restart of system work, but it will be a problem after some time again. Feels like memory leak on gpu or ram or something. I went back to 2022 version

I have multicam problems in 23.1 version also (PC). In version 22 (.6.4) everything is OK. If you do milticam editing avoid version 23 until Adobe fix this bug (hopefully).

Regarding Premiere Pro v23.2 / Mac 13.2.1; starting with this version, I am now experiencing poor timeline performance when doing a multicam edit. With 7 layers of video at 1080p ProRes HQ, after 8-10 minutes of playing the timeline, the playback becomes choppy, and edits are no longer accurate.

After finishing the multicam sequence edit I place that sequence into another sequence and do not experience another slowdown, or choppy performance for the rest of the project.

Glad you got things working.

Confirming: In 23.2, every non-multicam sequence worked great, and it was only multicam that gave you trouble? Or did you experience laggy performance with ordinary sequences, as well?

I too am having poor multicam playback on my new M1 Ultra with 4 camera 4K Canon footage. It starts out well but after time if I am editing or switching on the fly the edits lag. Sometimes the audio drops out. I don't want to rebuild my cache every time because I rely on the waveforms quite a bit while editing and it takes a while for them to rebuild. I have done the 3rd party rebuild(?) option when you Option Start the program. Just wanted to report a smiliar experience here to mtoimedia.

Hi Andrea,

Thanks for the additional report, Andrea.

Confirming: Are you seeing poor playback ONLY with multicam sequences, or are you seeing it with other sequence types as well?

For me I only had issues with Multicam in V23.2, non-multicam sequence worked ok. v23.1 (mac) multicam is working as expected.

Have you tried editing on windows 10 previously? if not, I'd suggest you to do that. But not 100% sure it'll fix the problem. you can try at least if you want.

Hi Bruce, I have only done a multicam edit so far on 23.2. I may have a standard edit coming up I believe and will see if my system performs the same way.

Glad I'm not the only one to experience this. I thought I was going crazy, especially since I'm running Premiere on my high spec M1 Max. I've re-installed 23.1 and it seems to be working fine once again. Apparently it's not uncommon for Adobe to 'fix bugs' only to introduce new, worse bugs.

We also have a performance-issue with multicam, even in 23.0 to 23.2

Using M1-MacStudios with 10GB-Network an XDCamHD422-files.

Seemed to be that performance goes down when timeline-duration or project-size will grow. Final timeline-lengt about 60'. Even deleting cash-files will help work on for minutes.

We are thinking about to transfer the footage to ProRes maybe it will help
