Premier Project Folders disappeared from my hard-drive while using Adobe Premier

Hello,

In the past 4 months, i have twice had the experience of entired folders being deleted while working with Premier Pro. In the first case, the folder contained all of the proxies of a project, which meant that I had to re-export all of the proxies (it took a week).

The second case happened a few days ago and the folder containing a new version of an edit of a feature film which had been made over the past 3 weeks.

In both cases I was using Premier Pro for other projects when the folders disappeared.

There was nothing in the trash and I have searched my whole hard drive, there is no longer any .pproj file or auto-save vault corresponding to the lost work.

The trash does contain many files deleted before the date of the folders disappearance so its impossible that I accidentally deleted it.

The deletions happened on two separate computers, an imac and a MacBook Pro bought a month ago (OS Sequoia 15.3.1). There are 650 GB of free space on the computer.

Adobe blamed Apple but Apple says its impossible that they deleted it. They did say that they have no control over folders which are accessible to third parties, in this case both folders were used by Adobe.

I am using Adobe for professional purposes and pay a monthly fee for the Adobe Suite though I have now lost a 4 weeks work over the past couple of months.

Has anyone had similar issues ?

Thanks and all my best,

Gregg

Hi Dani,

Thanks for your message.

I have written quite a detailed description above and also replied to your questions previously.

The first time it happened I was using my iMac and the folder was on a Lacie hard disc. Working with Premier 2022.

The folder contained all of the proxies of the project I was busy exporting. After the edit, the proxies folder had disappeared.

The second time it happened, I was working on a new Macbook pro, bought in February and using Premier 2025.

I had created a new project in a seperate folder using File... Save as...and started working on a seperate edit.

The next day I discovered that the folder containing the project I had been working on previously had disappeared completely.

Scratch discs settings still showed that the lost project was saved in my Documents folder but the folder, and all pproj files related to it were no longer on the Macbook. The computer has 650 Go of free space.

The project media files are kept on an external Lacie disc but the missing files were all the pproj files, Autosave folders as well as many photographs, pdfs and word documents related to the project. Its 3 weeks of work to be re-edited.

I'm not with my computers now but can send screen captures tomorrow.

Thanks and all my best,

Gregg

NTFS formatted External HDD, used on MacOS 15.4 with TuxeraNTFS. Premiere Pro 25.2.1, Im not sure when it was updated. The OS was not updated for the last 10 days. Files suddenly went offline at which point I detected the folder missing completely. The folder is visible but innacesible on a Windows PC. All the other paths were by default set to "Same as project".

Hi @greggs9255597 and @erv_g, are you able to provide any additional information about how your folder and drive structures are set up?

  • How are the drives where this deletion occurred formatted (ExFAT, APFS, NTFS, etc)?
  • What exact version of Premiere Pro were you working on when this happened and did it coincide with any updates either to your apps or operating system?
  • Is it possible for you to share screenshots of any other paths being used by the affected projects, like in File > Project Settings > Scratch Disks?
  • Did this happen while working in the middle of your project? If so how did this look like—did your files suddenly go offline?

The more information we can get the better in order to be able to investigate and try to reproduce the issue.

It's sad for me as I'm on my final straw with Premiere anyways and I'll force myself to switch the way this is going, regardless that I've been with adobe for 10 years...

Hi, I'm glad to hear that someone else has had the same problem as me with Premier Pro.

I hope that a solution is found soon.

This is impossible. An entire audio SFX folder that was on a separate HDD from my working system ssd was just deleted by Premiere Pro, latest version as of this date. My Mac is not showing the folder anymore and I can see the folder was there but it is unaccesible through my Windows PC. It is unnaceptable that Premiere Pro is deleting project folders on its own without an option for recovery. Will terminate my subscription if there is no solution ASAP.

Hi Dani,

I'd be grateful if you could follow up on this issue.

I did a long call with a senior Adobe agent yesterday but the cause for the problem is not yet identified.

As the loss of folders being used by Adobe has happened twice on two separate computers in the last 4 months, its important that an explanation is found. This has only happened with folders related to Adobe projects being run on the computer at the moment when they disappeared.

Loss of these folders involves loss of work time and also wear and tear on my machines as re-exporting 1400 4K videos to replace the lost proxies has had its cost on my iMac's performance.

Thanks and best regards,

Gregg

Hi Dani,

I'm using Premier Pro 2025.

I have separate folders for all my projects and the Auto-save for this one was in the project folder. This project was saved in a folder in documents, on the computer (not icloud). The whole folder disappeared. Fortunately the footage was on a Lacie external disc but the edit I had neglected to copy since 8 March.

The previous time this happened, the Proxies were deleted from an external disc while I was doing an export to the desktop of the computer.

Thanks, Gregg

Hi @greggs9255597,

Welcome to the Premiere Pro forums and sorry for the frustration. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue.

A few questions:

  • What version of Premiere Pro were you using when this happened?
  • What folder are you saving your files in? Is it in the default Documents > Adobe > Premiere Pro > ## path, or do you have specific, separate folders for each project?
  • Do you keep all of your media in your Mac drive or do you use any external hard drives for media or projects?
  • If you go to File > Project Settings > Scratch Disks, what is your "Project Auto Save" path set to?

Hope we can help you soon,
Dani
