Sequences Missing from Project and All Autosaves

Community Beginner ,

This is a strange one I've never seen in my nearly 20 years of editing.

When I received a batch of footage with sync timelines, I always duplicate them and create "markup" sequences with my initials where I leave color coded markers to help myself navigate the project more fluently.

Altogether in the project at-hand, I created six duplicated sequences with markers. After leaving the project for a week, I opened it today and all of my marked sequences had vanished from the project but one. I searched "sequence" in the project browser just to make sure I hadn't somehow moved all six sequences to a random folder. I then thought, "no biggie, I have autosave set to save every 5 minutes, so I'll just go back to a previous iteration."

When I opened the autosave project, the sequences were missing from it as well. I then went through two weeks of autosaves. The sequences are missing from all of the project files as if I never created them. The thing is, I did. I used them throughout the entire edit to arrive at a final cut. This is a really alarming bug and I've seen quite a few in my time.

Hi Torben,

We've dug through the projects provided (thanks!), and can't find any indication of failures or foul play, within the projects. That gives us nothing to go on, to pursue this issue further.

As mentioned in my email, please do reach out directly if you encounter this behavior again.

Agreed, scary!

How do you bring the "batches of footage with sync timelines" into PPro?

Confirming: None of your auto-saves for the project, contain the sequences which have gone missing?

Thanks for responding, Bruce.

I receive a sync timeline from the production company I work for with proxies and synced timelines for each day for both 24fps and 60fps footage. I duplicate their timelines and simply add my initials and "markup" to the duplicated timeline. I have a system where I mark A cam, B cam, Both, or Dialog so I can jump around quickly.

I have not clicked on every single autosave, but I have looked at 10 of them separated in time.

Checked another five auto-save project files for good measure and reset my app preferences and media cache but they're gone.

Your media cache and preferences are gone?  Or are the sequences still missing?

Sorry, that wasn't clear. The sequences are still missing.

Thanks for the details!

>The thing is, I did.

We believe you.

If you'd like, send me the oldest auto-save which might contain the sequences, and the current version of the same project; we'll look for any clues.
