Unable to download language packs for older Premier version

Community Beginner ,
May 12, 2025 May 12, 2025

Hi,

I'm having an issue installing the language packs for transription in Premier Pro 23.6.8.

I am unable to do this through Creative Cloud as it does not recognise the version as being installed.

I need to use the older program for compatability for plug-ins.

I've tried signing out of CC and specifiying the install location but this has not worked.

I'm using Windows 11.

Thanks.

Hello Fergus,

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with the language packs.  @Stan Jones nailed it.  Did his suggestion resolve your issue?

Hi @Fergus28196749olsv

Unfortunately, Premiere Pro versions are not backward compatible with the language packs in the way you are asking.  It Stan's suggestion didn't work you may have to use the newer version in the way he described.  What are the plugins you need for v23.6?  Is there no alternative in the newer versions?

Unfortunately, I cannot. The current long-term support version is 24.6, so we can't do too much about anything before that. Also, the new packs aren't backward compatible in that way.  Hopefully,  Stan's workaround can get help accomplish what you need to keep working.  I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help.

@Fergus28196749olsv,

I just tested in PR 2023, and I was able to install a language pack for Dutch from the "Create transcription from source media" dialogue box. The "transcribe source clips" message behind the error message suggests your are using a variation on the automatic transcription. Use right-click from the Project Panel instead, and select the language there.

You cannot install a language pack for PR 2023 (or earlier) from the Cloud Desktop. Language packs are installed per version. The "add-ons" link will be for the version you open it from. Go to Apps -> All Apps and find PR 2024 or 2025, and the 3 dots menu will include Add-ons. If you open add-ons from the 2025 link, it will install language packs to PR 2025; for 2024 to PR 2024.

Versions prior to that, that  you have installed, will show, but the 3 dots menu does NOT include add-ons and "other versions" will only show the option to uninstall. (Versions prior to 2024 are not available for installation.)

A workaround is to install 2024 or 2025 and create a project with just the assets you need to transcribe. Add the language you want, and transcribe. Export the transcription. (This is a proprietary transcripton format - .prtranscript). For each asset, import this to your project in PR 2023. That should work.

Hi Stan,

Thanks for your answer. I was unable to install the pack through this method. The progress bar stopped less than 1/4 of the way through and the timer went up by a minute every minute...

Is there no way to take the installed pack from a newer vesion and add it in to the older one?

Having two versions is not a solution for me.

Thanks,

Fergus

Hi Rach,

It's the Avid Media Central plug in which does not work with v24 or v25.

Is there no other way to access the language packs? Are you not able to provide them?

It is only English UK I need.

Thanks,

Fergus

Did you get the error message again? I had a similar thing - it did not say downloading language pack, and the time would go down, then up, etc. And the language pack can take a while to download, depending on your connection. Because it is going to be a problem to work around, if you did NOT get the error message, I would wait up to an hour before giving up.
