Very frequent random crashing when importing or exporting media

I am working on a project in blender. I create 1000s of still frames that i use Premiere Pro to turn into videos and add effects. I have been doing this for many years without issue. Recently, Premiere Pro has started to crash with the error message and report dialogue about 50% of the time when I try to import or export any media to the disk. If I start the project and click on videos or frames to import, it might crash. If I click on the export tab, it might crash. If manage to get to the export tab and then click to change the directory to save the exported file, it might crash. I am having to restart the application dozens of times an hour to get anything done.

It has generated loads of .dmp files and I must have sent adobe a report about 50 times in the last week with the amount of error messages I've been getting.

Seems related to anything that interacts with external files on the disk. The disk in question is a 2TB SSD and it has plenty of space left and has no corruption.

I tried disabling GPU Encoding/decoding and it still crashes. My system has a Ryzen 9 5950x at stock and an rtx 4090 and rtx 4060 together. None of my SSDs are full. I tried clearing the cache, i even uninstalled the entire creative cloud app with all the settings gone too and reinstalled it a fresh, and it still happens.

In the uploaded screenshot, all i did was highlight the files to import and then it crashed. This was the second time trying, the first time it crashed when selecting just one file. So it seems very random.

Can someone make sense of the dump file it created perhaps?

thanks

Updating Status: Acknowledged

Current workaround is to ensure Windows Graphics preference for Premiere Pro is set to the default (Let Windows decide) in Settings.

Hi,

The version is 25.2.1. The files are all .png and .mp4 using H264. I have just updated my NVIDIA Drivers to the latest version this morning and it is still crashing. I have a very anecdotal further detail: it seems to happen more often when the RTX 4090 is occupied with Blender renders. This has always been OK in the past, since I use Adobe apps alongside Blender as it has plenty of memory (and the 4060 is connected to the display), idk if that helps.

Yes, I shared my email in one of the crash reports I sent (it is not the one I use for my Adobe account though) but I didn't put it in the other ones. Is it safe to upload the .dmp file here? (I.e, does it contain personal information about my computer and accessable publicly?)

thanks

Hi @ashlayw,

Sorry for the frustration. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue, like what Premiere Pro version are you on?

What file types are the videos and stills you are working with? Are your drivers up to date and Studio version?

Did you share your email in the crash reports you sent? You can also share your .dmp files with us and the team can take a look, I can direct message you if interested.

Hope we can help you soon,
Dani
