Question

17 GB of storage on my main disc but new updates won't install due to insufficient disc space.

My install location is the main disc in my Mac computer. When I try to install the new update it says I need at least 6GB of space to install the update. I have 17GB available so I'm confused as to what's going wrong.

If you can clear up space then you really should. Your whole computer is going to start slowing down as you get low on disk space. There's also a lot of processes that write big temp files – like Time Machine – that will need space to write to disk. On my machines with boot drives under 1TB, I always try to keep at least 25% of the drive empty to avoid issues.

That's because the system needs hard drive space for system and temp files as well as the space used by Adobe.

Is there any way to just clear up some more space? 17GB is getting low.

I can, I'm just confused becuase if I follow the error code that Adobe gives me it says that I need around 6GB to install the update.  17GB is well beyond that so I'm trying to understand what would cause that to register as below 6GB.

Because of what Peru Bob stated, you should follow the recommended disk space requirements. Not the minimum.

You see, 6 GB is the minimum - but the recommended requirement is actually 20 GB or more free disk space. You simply do not have enough disk space to correctly install Premiere Pro despite having 17 GB free. All those temporary installation files eat up more than 12 GB of space, in addition to the 6 GB that's minimum.
