2018 and floating panels and windows on pop-up use: troublesome behavior

Hello! After installed the new premiere pro 2018 version, i've got a huge problem with floating windows. I work with three monitor (1 and 2 for my extended UI, anche 3 for preview full screen playback). Premiere pro main ui it's inside the first monitor with some tabs like project, media browser ecc ecc. On the second monitor i've got a floating window at full screen with inside the timeline, the preview monitor, the program the VUmeter etc (ui like Avid).

with the old version of premiere (2017), if i double click on a project folder, it pop up in the center on the first monitor, the good floating window, non too big, not too small. With this new version, if i double click the same folder, the floating window it appears in front the second monitor, in front at full screen the other ui with program, preview, timeline etc. Also, if i open a new project with this version (more projects inside the same ui), the new project floating window pop up BEHIND the ui to the second monitor. Ok, in general option i can set the double click open bin to the same position or tab, but i'm used to open a bin with a new pop up floating window. What's wrong? How can i fix this annoying problem? Many thanks!

    Hi,

Then your only recourse is to file a bug here. You're not alone, so I'll see what I can do to advocate on your (and others') behalf.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

I have a similar problem with CC2019 where everytime I switch sequence a plugin window pop back to the center of screen 1. And everytime I open a project floating windows in the second monitor pop back to the center of screen 1.

This started happening after Adobe support reinstalled a previous version (CC2018) that was acting up. So I will suggest re-installing 2019

Hey, I had this same issue and realised you can select in Preferences>General which keys open Bins in new windows, or new tabs. On Mac you can hold option and double click to open the bin in a new tab and then drag it out/re position as needed.

I already have my preference to open as a new window but that’s the problem.  They always open up on top of my undocked program screen no matter where it is placed.  And always at same size as program screen.  If I resize and move it, when I open it again it does the same thing as before and I have to move it and resize it.  It worked fine in 2017 version and all before it.  The bins opened up where you put them last.  Mine are following my program screen no matter where it is.

Update...I just uninstalled Premier Pro and deleted the user files that save the work spaces.  Restarted machine...made a new project...still same issue.  I can see that my bins open up wherever my Program screen is.  If it’s on my 2nd monitor, it opens there, and in the same size as the Program screen is.  If I make it smaller and move it to main screen, the bins open there and at the same new size as the Program screen.  This is NOT my machines issue.  Premier Pro needs to escalate this as I am obviously not alone with this problem.

I was just on chat support for two hours with them looking at this and they could not figure it out.  They said they don’t have the problem on their end so it must be my machine.  That good ole stand by excuse that software makers use.  Even though this post shows there are many that have the same problem.  This was NOT an issue with the 2017 version as many have stated.  It’s a huge inconvenience to keep resizing my bin and moving it back to my main monitor so it doesn’t cover up my program screen on my second monitor.  C‘mon Adobe...we pay you a premium fee to use your software and we expect more than this.  Especially since this has been happening for over a year now.  Completely unacceptable.  So yes...the bug has been filed and filed and filed again.  So now what will you do about it, Adobe.  We did our part...fix this.

    Hi Ale_Zakko,

Check out Preferences > General and change the way your Bins open. I have them all opening in a new tab on double click.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

Thanks for the answer Kevin, i know that there's this possibility to open bins in a new tab by double click, but i don't need this, i come from Media Composer, and i need to open my bins on floating windows. On premiere 2017 everything was ok, double click and the floating window show up in the main monitor at center. Now on the 2018, if i open a bin in a floating window, this window will show up to the secondary monitor at the same size of the floating window with my editing interface with timeline, preview and program monitor.

This morning I found that reopening a new project opened the Project window...but over the top of the previous project I'd been working on. Also my Workspace preset isn't opening the layout I had.
Also, where have the re-positioning/dragging handles of the windows gone?

    Pain in the arse...

I too am having similar problems with floating Windows (mac).

If my project panel is on the second monitor bins open up off screen with no way to reposition.

When the project panel is on the main monitor bins open normally.

I have a possibly related issue (Windows 7/64) When using a dual monitor layout, the panels on one monitor will shift in vertical size if I minimize AE or flip to another application.
