A low-level exception occurred in: Adobe Player (Player 6)

edit: I see the following issues now that I made this post, due to "Related conversations" posts on the side:

https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/kb/known-issues.html

I will roll back to the prior update and tell CC Desktop to stop auto updating until the beta comes out.

Original message: I have a Windows 10 PC. AMD Kaveri A10-7850K 4GHz with 16GB RAM and a 500GB Samsung EVO SSD. I didn't do any OS or graphics driver updates. I haven't even rebooted since the last time I used Premiere Pro CC yesterday. This morning Creative Cloud Desktop updates 8 applications while I was away, including Premiere Pro. It did this on it's own. I didn't initiate this update. Now I try to add a Legacy Title with a simple sentence of text, and I get this error when I try to add that title into the timeline:

A low-level exception occurred in: Adobe Player (Player 6)

This freezes my work in the program. So now I have to fix this, or work around this, to make a program I've been using for years, work normally.

I have done absolutely nothing to my PC to make this happen. I was adding titles to my last project. Now I can't do something as simple as that.

Not only that, but I open up ANY project I worked before, I am greeted with this error from the first moment any prior project loads up.

So I do some Google searching. I see that I now have to change:

File, Project Settings, General, Video Rendering and Playback, Renderer: "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (OpenCL)" to "Mercury Playback Engine Software Only."

Now things seem to work normally, except the preview window is more pixelated, and runs slower. Sometimes at 1 FPS. This is a workaround - a terrible one at that - and it's all I can find on this issue anywhere.

This isn't a hardware problem. This is a software problem with a program I've been using for years, and now suddenly developed this syndrome. I've rebooted my PC as a troubleshooting option and there's been no change. I don't have any Windows Updates at this time, and I'm loath to update the AMD Catalyst drivers until I know more.

Please help. I should be able to use this program normally, without having to use a janky workaround that makes performance suffer, and apply it to all future projects, or any prior project. Thank you.

Apologies that it took some time, but Premiere Pro 14.2 has just shipped and contains the fix for Legacy Titles with GPU Renderer.

Me too. It's super-annoying and making my work process much slower for clients who want work faster as a result of Covid-19

Little bit late to the party, sorry guys.

A solution I found is to create your legacy title, regardless of the message that pops up.

Hit 'Sequence', 'Render In and Out', wait for the completed progress bar and the issue should be resolved.

Update from Adobe:

Apologies. This is an issue that is being worked on (the issue with legacy Titles should already be fixed in 14.2 Beta). Until then, a workaround is to use Software Rendering (File menu > Project Settings > General > Video Rendering and Playback > Mercury Playback Engine Software Only)

I also have this problem after updating new version... and Software Rendering (File menu > Project Settings > General > Video Rendering and Playback > Mercury Playback Engine Software Only) also don't work since a error message keep popping up

Try switch to Sortware rendering then restart PR, it should work well.

Ya.... I didn't by thousands of dollars worth of hardware to run in "software only". Sigh.

This is a constant issue with Adobe. Everything works, then an update appears, and nothing works for six months.

Hey, I was just having the same problem! Here's how I fixed it (found this on another forum):

I was able to fix it by changing my render and play back settings from Mercury playback engine GPU Acceleration open CL' to 'Mercury Playback Engine Software Only'

I did this by going to File>Project Settings>General then under Renderer make sure its set to Mercury Playback Engine Software Only.

This helped me fix that error. Hope it works for you!

I am having the same issue. I was using ver. 14.1, rolling back to the previous verions now. The issue seems to occur when using the Legacy title tool. I don't like the essential graphics tool, as there are not enough editing options, such as you know... font size

I'm having this exact issue. I even rolled back to 13.0 but still the same error occurs. The workaround of usingMercury Playback Engine Software Only is ridiculous as I'm working with 4k footage and it slows down my timeline to the point of wanting to through my computer out of the window. Has anyone had any success with any of this? Please!! I have work to do.Many thanks. Tony

Everything now works so far that I found that was not working before. Too bad I do not really any real projects in the future due to Covid-19. I had one for July...but  now the event is cancelled so no video shoot and no post production.

I'm so sorry if this is not working for you. If you have Premiere Pro 14.2 installed and are still seeing issue with legacy Titles, could you please quit Premiere Pro then try deleting your Media Cache folders and resetting your Preferences & plug-in cache?

How to clear your Media Cache folders: https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/faq-how-to-clear-your-cache-in-premiere-pro-2019/td-p/83...

To reset Preferences & plug-in cache, hold down Opt/Alt + Shift keys while launching Premiere Pro. Click OK when dialog appears asking if you want to reset your plugin cache and preferences.

If this does not work for you, please contact Support and they can help with troubleshooting.

Thank you.

Same problem like everyone else. In my case adding a legacy title and BINGO!! Misery loves company.

A low-level exception occurred in: Adobe Player (Player 6). This was on a new project using 14.1.0 build 11 six. Sure glad I keeped earlier versions of Premiere.

Export non functional with 14.1.0 same build as well.

This isn't a windows only issue.  Happening on Mac...still in May.  Uninstalled and reinstalled.  This has messed up a 6 month project and credit roll.  Can you say long movie style in legacy that is now bogging down the entire project export.  Adobe this is crazy.  The entire encoder crashed every time you try and export.

Advise editors on this thread to avoid or begin finding alternative workflows to using such tools as Legacy Titler or Obsolete Effects. Engineers need to keep developing the software based on future tech that might not support legacy UI or effects. Try to use the new Title tool and Essential Graphics panel instead. Need help with that? Let me know. Don't like that option? Here's a link to User Voice to voice your opinion on the matter.

It's nothing personal or ill intended.
