Question

Adding Chapter Marks to H264 MP4 files on PC

How on earth am I supposed to do this please?

Adding chapter marks out of Premiere simply has no effect when the resulting MP4 is imported into iTunes.

My client wants Chapter Markers for the iTunes version - yet it seems this is only possible on a b*****d Mac.

Any suggestions would be most welcome

    Hi Ann.

Not on my PC - there is no way I can find to add this.

Also - this is really irritating - I have the markers embedded in the MP4 as you can see above. When I look at the markers in the tab they are all named for the songs.

However, on exporting the markers to a text file, not one name is added - every track gets the parent film name.

This is so broken it is unusable, and the worst of it is Adobe do not care one iota. I have been looking at this for 3 days now and there is no solution at all on PC, and can you imagine the row and furore that would ensue if Mac users were, for example, barred from creating certain types of content by Microsoft?

So frustrating that iTunes and ProRes seems the de facto standard now, yet ProRes is an obsolete codec, and iTunes functionality is more like malware on PC than anything else plus half of the stuff simpply does not work. I am really frustrated by this whole situation. I now have to go through the markers tab, and copy/paste every name into the exported text file replacing the endless 29 chapter listing with the film name instead of the named chapters.

BELOW is a paste from some other thread...ostensibly re: using encore but this particular thing caught my eye.

Have you tried test export using quicktime h264 and see if you retain chapter marker as in illustration below ?

If you have to upload mp4 you might be able to just change the extension ??

    good luck !

    ===================================

how you are exporting them, not how you are creating them ?

I exported with one chapter marker using QuickTime and the Codec H264

This picture after i imported my video into my Timeline

    Suggestion appreciated, but no good.

Firstly, PPro CC Chapter Markers - even when embedded into the MOV file and rendered out as MP4 simply do not appear at all in iTunes. The film shows as a single 2 and a half hour concert.

Secondly, the AME variant of H264 is so bad it's just not funny - absolute rubbish. I use x264 Pro with Quicktime Compatibility checked or the TMPG version and both fail to carry markers through - it seems PPro Chapter Markers are useless outside Encore (which is dropped).

    Still stuck here

As you can see - the file has the markers embedded - but these are just not being recognised by iTunes
